UPDATE:

So on my way to get my leak fixed ( that i thought was coming from my manifold)

out of no where while driving the car got ridiculously louder. then it had almost no power....i was only able to go 40mph on the high way....i pulled over and took a look under the hood to see that 2 out of the 4 bolts that hold the turbo onto the turbo manifold were lose as could be and were almost all the way backed out. went home, tightened the bolts and put some nuts on there and now im good to go

********************************************************what is the best method of going about this? it sounds like hell and its getting worse by the day.

is there any little helpfull tips i should know of while trying to replace the gasket?

.........what really pissed me off it the fact this gasket is under a year old ............maybe i should go with a copper one this time around

Pulling the exhaust isn't that hard.-Remove intake tract piping-Remove the downpipe and turbo extension-Remove the banjo bolts tieing the hard lines to the block, and remove the coolant line from the rear of the block-Remove the exhaust manifold studs, starting on the outside moving in.

I have a multi layered metal for mine, and it has held up for years. I would check to make sure either your manifold is straight (probably the cause) or your head mating surface is straight. The mani would be nicer as it's easier to deck and straighten that surface.

my exhuast gasket had a leak before i bought it and it was replaced with a stock one. this was not even a year ago. and i heard that stock ones are etter then after market one. i have a megan racing exhasut manifold with new gaskets, andi was wondering if i should reuse the newly replace one, or use the new one that came with the manifold.

I really hope its not that the manifold is not straight

Im thinking its just the crappy silver colored gasket they gave me with the megan manifold....it seems megan gaskets are always leaking on people.

I knew i should have bought put the copper one and put it on when i had the motor out of the car......Damn it!

by the way, I just went to roanoke for the first time last week. its a cool little town..its not really a city like everyone says, but it its still nice...A hell of a lot more to do there then in lynchburg

actually, it kind of reminded me of hartford ct, but much smaller

Heh, Roanokers seem to think it's a big city. I laugh. It's a nice little town, I just wish there was a bit more to do. Shoot me an email next time you come up here.

I can guarantee that your megan gasket is teh culprit. Go to either heavy throttle or courtesy and order a new stock gasket. That will solve your problems (I just assumed you had a stock exhaust mani, and I've seen them warp over time. Had an RB that had been sidelined in Japan because of a warped mani not too long ago)

And since it's just the mani gasket mating to the head. Just pull the intake plumbing out, remove the nuts holding the mani down and let the exhaust support it. You don't have to remove the whole setup to replace just that gasket. Just make sure to support the turbo from the top with mechanics wire or a coat hanger while you swap gaskets.

I've heard of and know of many people who have had the turbo back off the manifold using the Megan unit. Might wanna check that out too.

ill for sure drop you an email next time I go up there.

Its an extreamly small city, but nice. It semed very clean, and it was nice to be around some big buildings and some night life agian . Im not used to being out in the sticks like this.

As for getting back up to roanoke, first I need to get this leak fixed...it sounds like crap...but not as bad as when I drove from Connecticut to Virginia with no exhaust.....i had no piping after the turbo. It was so loud I couldn't even hear my girlfriend talk in the passenger seat....and the trip was 12 hours ! needless to say ....it sucked balls.

Off topic, but since you live somewhat close to JGY....are familiar with thier work at all? Are they a good shop? I want to put in my cp 9/1 pistons and eagle rods...but I don't feel comfortable doing it myself. I was thinking maybe id have them do it.

JGY is ok. I've been to their shop once to pick up an SR for a swap my friend and I were doing.

They seem to get mixed reviews from people. There was a datsun 510 that had an SR swapped into it a few years ago that had some buzz going around it over how bad of a job JGY had done on it.

However, JGY is the only shop in VA that has a RWD torque plate and they also have the propper tools for setting valve shims.

I personally have never had trouble with them, but I've only ever bought parts. I will say they are very knowledgable when it comes to parts.

you 100% called that one! is it really that common of a problem?

LOL yeah all the people I know with Megan's have trouble with that at some point or another. I dunno if you are supposed to but I'd use a little RTV or threadlock.
