i am going with a 300zx turbo from a 1984 or from a 1987 300zx. Not sure which one to go with, the 1984 turbo says 17 on it and the 1987 says 14 on it. Does anyone know what these numbers mean? It looks to me that the exhaust port on the older turbo has a bigger exhaust inlet port, not sure. Which one should i go with? Are any of these good?

yeah i know that for sure and part of the reason is the 99 model had more power from the engine, (5 more hp big deal)so i'm guessing the trim on the turbo was smaller. I think the internals are the same though, you can check for your self at http://www.z31.com and click on the FISCHE. Its kind of like an online manual, but not real clear pics. What year did they stop putting the L28 engine in the Z? I thought the anniversary edition had the L series.

you're one of the few people with some financial sense.

most people spend good money on cams/pulley/whatever and maybe pull 5hp peak and consider it a good deal.

and people who spend money on dodge neons. no offense, but man, what a waste.

The turbo off of the 88 300zx is a T3 I believe. It's pretty common for people to take them and thorw them under the hood of a 240, but just make sure you build the engine up correctly. It won't run properly off of ghetto mods, so use the money you save on the turbo itself to buy some decent BPU.

yeah but thats not your everyday neon buddy. Thats the turbo neon thats supposed to be just a few fractions of a sec slower than the viper's QMT. Its also an american jdm wannabe and will break all over the place given a few hard runs.

Also to all the z31 T3 folks out there that 7 bolt flange on the downpipe sucks a**. I hope the actuator valve can be put into a new downpipe, wastegates are too expensive seriously.

So american cars with turbo's are JDM wannabe's?? Then I suppose a Buick Grand National falls right in there as well. Give it a few hard launches and it's just going to fall apart...lol.

I think Dodge is doing an excellent job. I have allot of respect for them building a Turbo Neon. No one else seems to want to.

For the record, I'm a Nissan guy, always have been. But there isn't any reason to slander a nice ride.

yeah i saw one of those turbo neons, finally. it was kinda nice. i too give dodge props for selling that car. if it holds up well, it will be good for dodge. but of course, when they designed it, they ended up powering the wrong set of wheels. :-) silly dodge and their torque steer....-Enzo

Neon's ain't so bad. I have a friend who just did basic bolt ons (cai, 3" exaust, msd box, and udp) and ran a 14.4@93 mph on drag radials. 14.7 on street tires. Of course i beleive that was a wednesday car all the way. Never seen another one run like that with bolt ons.

As far as reliability goes besides the head gasket recall they had it's very reliable. 100k+ beating the shet out of it miles and it's still kicking. I love nissan but i've blown 60k mile ka's like it's nothin. May just be my bad luck though. Haven't blown one because of boost though....

yet... :)

Cams and pulley only 5 hp peak? I hope you're not serious...my cams were dynoed at 11whp at 6300 rpm...

Dodge wants a piece of the Sports Compact pie. I'd rather get a Focus though.

why won't the 300zx turbo run good off the get go. My plan is to change the wastegate accuater to a weaker spring to suit my goal for now?

BPU - Basic Performance Upgrade. You generally can't change the springrate lower than stock. The only chance you have is to check a dealership for a lower rate than what the car was designed for. Good luck. You may get away with cutting down the spring little by little, and if you go too low, usually the actuator can turn a little to add more pressure. If that's not enough... you can add a washer to the spring that was cut too small.-Jeff

If it was a manifold with a t3 flange it would.
