i remember racing both a 1.8T jetta and golf in 2000+ years, and beating both of them with my 240. they are pretty quick, but you should be able to take both of them.

My friend just bought a brand new Turbo Diesel Jetta. 1.9 liter I think. Maybe 1.8. Its got some pep but it would never beat my 240. The 150ft/lb tq and 90hp is quite a step down from the 1998 El Derado (300hp) he used to have.

Believe it or don't, the VW TDI is highly tunable. I have a friend that has a modded Golf TDI and it is very fast. Much faster than stock and he would likely beat me on a roll, probably not from the line, but on an on-ramp situation he would win. I have an intake and exhaust w/dump pipe and he would still win.

I never thought a TDI could be that fast. The only downside is the huge roostertail of black smoke he leaves behind when he goes WOT. It looks like "Spy Hunter". I just call him "Pigpen". I know, I know. Pretty clever.

I had a 2001 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition Jetta. The car was quick.

There is one mod out there that you have to watch out for. There are many companies that sell chips for these cars. Not only do they sell the chips but they are extremely customer friendly. They install chips at local VW shows for free. Just drive your car to the show. They will help you rip the computer out and will install the chip while you enjoy the show.

Leave home with 150hp and go back with 200hp. It is a great thing.

There are a few chipped vws around here. I think they would hold their own against a mildly modded 240sx.
