I got my sr20det to start but the turbo is leaking oil.Is it okay to drive with broken turbine seal? Or wait until repair/replace the turbo? How bad is it for the engine/turbo/FMIC??

thanks,

get it fixed before you drive it around. that much oil in the intake stream is not good, because you'll probably burn off oil faster than you can put it back in.

true. make sure that the oil inlet and oulet bolts are tight before anything. be sure there are crush washers on BOTH side. while your at it, be sure that you don't need anything else replaced; exhaust mani gasket, turbo gasket, etc.

It's leaking oil out the compressor side cause he said it is leaking past a "turbine seal" ... let the turbo get a few miles into it and it may seal up once the seals are wet again.

Check it after a week of driving... if it hasn't stopped or you are smoking badly then it's time to rebuild the turbo.

I'd suggest getting better gaskets while you're removing the turbo... check out our new section at SPL for SR20DET gaskets.

It was leaking a lot of oil when i first started it.Now it doesn't seem to leak any or very little.I'm gonna drive for few days and see if it leaks any.

btw, it shouldn't leak any oil right?

thanks every one,

no it shouldn't. but it's common for the motor to smoke a little in the beginning. it's just crap being burned off. hopefully it turns out good for you. good luck

Alot of the oil is just from seepage (sp?) past the seals and when you run the motor will go bye-bye.

All turbo motors will spin a little oil compressor side, no biggie, it's just when it's puddling out the turbo it's time to rebuild the seals.

I think i've solved the whole oil leak problem.I had too much oil in the engine. That caused too much oil pressures.

After I drained the oil, and clean and fix the dents on the oil pan. It's not leaking any more.

At least not yet.
