So my friends and I had just gotten done installing my Tomei rocker arm stoppers, and put in a new waterpump on my SR20. We were looking around for a tool, and we found something very nice sitting in a box. It's a T28 turbo from a J Spec VG30DETT 300ZX. I guess it came over when my friends dad was replacing a VG30 in a Z32 that had destroyed his engine, but not the turbos, and there was no use for the turbo, so they've just been sitting around for about 18 months.

So by this time, I've got a very large stiffy, he said we could put it on my engine if I wanted it. So we took the T25 and T28 o2 extensions off, and they didn't match, of course. The only major differences is that the T28 extension is about an inch shorter than the T25 extension. If I could have a shop cut the flange off of my downpipe and weld another inch into it then weld the flange back on, would that work? Or would it work without any welding?

Now, if that works, does anybody have any idea if the oil/coolant lines will match up, and if not, what mods have to be done to get it to fit? We tried lining up and the ones we could see seemed to line up.

Lastly, does anybody know what the turbo would be good for? 18psi, and how long it would take to spool? This turbo was intended to power 3 cylinders and we intend to feed it 4 cylinders.

Comments? Suggestions?

no idea, but a t-28 is a nice street size from what i hear. Takes a little longer to spool up then a t25 but not as long as a t3/t4.

It's supposed to be good for over 300HP and be efficient up to 18 psi. We are going to take my turbo off tonight and see if the lines and bolts will line up, and if it does, we might leave it and see how it goes once we fire her up. The only downside would be that bigger injectors would probably have to be in the near future, 18 psi will run the stock 370's in the 90%+ duty cycle.

who told you its good for over 300HP???

i'd really look into that turbo before you put it on your car...like i said, the 300z's do NOT use two of the same turbo's that are found on the s14 or 15's.....

I thought all the 300ZX TT's ran T25's. Or is it just the early 90's TTs?

Allright, I finally figured out why the turbo seemed to be so good, even though visually, the housing looks smaller than the T25 from my SR......

It's because that turbo is only meant to power 3 cylinders, and that the engine makes 300HP when combined with the other 3 cylinders turbo'd.... duh...

So I'm going to scrap that idea, and I'm just going to go buy a T78, actually, 3 of them. :)And no, the Z32TT turbo is not ball bearing.

EDIT: I bet that T28 compressor in my T25 housing would kick some *** though ;)
