Anyone know if I can turn my stock t25 into a t28 by swapping the housing. Are the impellers the same? I saw one on frsport but don't think its what I need.

Wanted to know because I don't have the money for a new turbo and I got an extra t25 just sitting around.

I'm not really sure if that will work or not, but the real question is is your t25 in good enough shape to justify spending $250 on it. No shaft play, good seals, etc.

Really by swapping a different housing on a t25 doesnt turn it into a t28. T25s use journal bushings while t28 are ball bearing. And supposing that you did swap to a higher flowing turbine housing you would still have the weak t25 compressor wheel. You will be limited to a max boost pressure of around 19lbs. Anything higher than that and you will most likely see the compressor wheel explode, which I would love to see but Im sure you wouldnt.

Just save your money and buy a real T28 or a gt2871r.

understandably it wouldn't be as strong as a real gt28rs, but my goal isn't to increase boost I'm leaning more torwards efficiency. If i can flow a bigger volume at the same boost I'd be happy with that. The turbo would be rebuilt any way but it is in good shape.

I guess my question is can it be done, has anyone done it to their t25, and what kind of gains can I expect, I looked thru garret's website and got a headache from all the technical stuff.
