I have a 1990 model 240sx with a red top sr20det, I need to know the easiest way to replace the gasket in between the exhaust manifold and the turbo without taking it to a shop. I have the parts on the way from project nissan and would like to start on it as soon as they get here. Thanks.

Take off your hot pipe and intake hose and such so you have easy access to the turbo.

Go under your car... First drain your coolant. Then unbolt the down pipe. Then disconnect all the turbo lines. Loosen all the nuts for the manifold. Lift the entire thing including the O2 housing out of the car. It's easier if somebody from the bottom helps you snake it out so it clears the steering column.

Now unbend the lock tabs holding the turbine nuts. Loosen the nuts, take off the turbo. Installation is rever order.

Make sure you replace all the gaskets while your at it.

i was just taking mine apart yesterday. theres just two locking plates each holding 2 nuts. you need to pry them apart from the nuts using a flat head of some sort or anything you can find to seperate the locking from from the nut so that you can unscrew it.

once you've replaced the gasket, put in one of the nuts in first, and screw it in or seat it a little in place, bc if you screw in the other 3 nuts in first, theres no room for the one in the tight space to go back in. so get the nut in that has the least room first on the stud or else it won't go in when the other 3 are secure since the stud is close to the turbo housing and you won't be able to put it back in unless you loose the other 3 nuts. lol hope that made sense.

you don't need anything else, the locking plates secure the nuts in, just try to secure it on a flat side of the nut with the locking plate

just set aside a whole afternoon to do it, and if you're good with working on your car you'll be done by nightfall. what time to start depends on your skill level. i did mine in about 4 hours, including installing a new manifold, turbine outlet, and exhaust. oh, and if you are installing a new manifold, use OEM Nissan gaskets. you'll thank me later. the manifold-to-turbine gasket is very important, and the ebay vs. Nissan difference is crazy. the Nissan looks hardcore, while the ebay looks like some Honda crap gasket that doesn't have to worry about boost.
