Hi, i'm wondering what kind of a turbo you can use for a homemade turbo kit. I am wondering because i got a good deal on a turbo from a WRX. Is this useless to me or can it be used.

Thanks,Rob

I think its an TD04. JGS sells a KA manifold and allows you to choose that flange. So it can physically fit. I dont know the exact specs of the turbo, so I cant say how it would work on a KA.

EDIT: JGS sells a DSM TD05 flange, not a TD04 (assuming thats the right turbo). You might have to find the correct flange separately and have it welded onto whichever manifold you buy.

OK, where do i find JGS. I know a place near by that could weld the flange onto the manifold. One more question, what do i need to check on the turbo to make sure it is still good. Everyone talks about shaft play obviously but what else do i need to check. Thank you for the help.

I believe this turbo is way too small for the KA, although I don't remember the specs. I'd go with a used t3/t4 if you're on a budget and sell ur wrx turbo.

if you're on a budget. I'd get a turbo from a Merker or T-bird. I believe both are T3 Super 60's

i agree with him. my brothers friend has a wrx turbo and it is smaller than a normal fist . . . so, i would go the right way and go for a better/effiecient turbo than that just my opinion bout it.

The turbo from a 2.3L Ford (with manual transmission) has the same specs as a Z31 T3.60trim comp wheel and 0.63AR exhaust with stg 1 wheel

The automatics use a smaller 0.48AR (I'm 90% sure thats the difference)

Thank you so much for all the info guys, super helpful. I think i may follow your advice and sell the WRX turbo. I know you guys mentioned a few cars but could you list a few of the exact cars i could get one of those turbo's from.

It would make it very easy for me to check around at a junk yard. I figured a t3/t4 would be best because it is the most popular, and although i haven't looked i'm guessing that JGS probably makes a manifold that would fit that turbo with no mods. Basically i just want to know then where i can get a t3/t4 for cheap, like what cars have them and i will pull one.

Thank you so much for the help guys, i didn't expect so many people to jump in so quickly to help me out.

If you could just name a few specific cars i can snag one of those turbos from i will be on my way to actually having some horsepower to go along with all my suspension/drivetrain mods.

Sorry for double posting but i wanted to specify that the easiest turbo for me to get from a junkyard would be from an import car because the biggest junkyard near by is an import only yard. I saw that JGS has flanges for z31 and z32 and DSM turbo's. I could find one of those easily. What do you guys think.

Thanks

yeah, i hate to thread-jack, but i need a t3(/t4) turbo also for my homebrew setup, i already got the JGS mani w/t3 flange, and ive already payed for my megabikirom ( http://www.bikirom.com ) and next payday im getting 370's, so my project is on its way, befoer i get my mani welded, its been suggested to me to test fit it before you put the turbo flange on it, now after the injectors are bought, id like to buy a remanufactured/refurbished turbo, but i dont know where to buy, or even what size, i came across this site http://www.turbocalculator.com/sale-garrett.php and they have a 60 trim with a .48a/r for 329, isnt that a little small for an a/r? sorry im a turbo noob.

Drift King - Shutokou Battle 2. There is also Drift King - Shutokou Battle '94. You can get a better drifting experience on the SNES with Mario Kart.

I will be running a WRX turbo on my KA, probably for a very short time, but I intend on figuring out how good it is. The nice thing about making a setup for this turbo is that you can use any IHI-VF series turbo, and most are pretty cheap now on ebay and such, specifically for WRX upgrades (Ill probably end up getting a VF-34 after I ditch the TD04). Be aware, its a big pain in the arse to engineer the flanges, and downpipes and fitment and such for this, If I had to do it again, Id rather just buy a t3/t4 or something. Good luck.
