pretty much anything, you just have to make a manifold.

be more specific, what are you looking for?

specifically, i want to rebuild the engine and then put a turbo on...i wasn't sure how much room particular turbos are gonna have in the engine bay...i was looking for something that wouldn't be a ton of custom work but would still get decent performance...any ideas?

it all depends on your manifold design. there are some that direct exhaust up to the front of the engine compartment where the airbox used to be. others just fit it into the back.

most street turbos that I have seen are pretty much the same size, give or take an inch per radius. the biggest problem with fittment is the exhaust housing, and likely you will get something with a T3, which is easy to fit, but it just requires a good manifold.

check mine outhttp://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~shersman/car.html

there are a couple of pics(link at the bottom) , it wasnt much custom work, and it produces a lot more power than it did before.

what else is essential when turboing a KA? i mean like engine internals...are new cams a good idea?

you dont "need" to do anything to internals, just retard the timing a little bit.

if you are trying to avoid internal work on your engine, cams arent such a good idea, but could yield a few extra hp

would i need an intercooler at all? or should that not be a problem unless i'm really pushing the car?

depends, its good for your long term plan, because you only have to make intake piping once, if you use an intercooler at the beginning, and decide to up the boost. but in low boost situations its not a necessity

well considering the turbo will be forcing the air through your intake manifold, yes, the injen will have to be tossed. The airfilter/maf assembly will be hooked to the turbo inlet using a different pipe.
