So I installed my kit about a week ago and it worked great didn't smoke at all. About 4 days into it I started to notice smoke. Checked the compression and its fine. So now I am thinking the turbo is causing the smoke. I pop the intercooler piping of and I notice there is oil all over in the intake.

I started poking around online and I see people are running oil restrictors to protect the turbo. So installed one - .065". The smoking got much better right away but still was smoking some and still oil in the intake.

So I called a few turbo shops and they seemed to think that my oil return line was too low and the oil was getting backed up causing it to leak into the turbo. So I raised it from the bottom of the oil pan to the highest spot before the lip.

Guess what it still smokes. They guys at the T shop said it is unlikly that the seals are blown and that some how my turbo is drawing a vacume?!?!

Helpme out guys any experiance?!

Checking your turbo bearing shaft play is an easy way to find out if your bearings are shot or not. This would be a common cause of oil leaks past the turbo seals. If it was the result of too much pressure, the problem would have gone away as soon as the problem was resolved. To get oil past the turbo due to vacuum(no excess oil pressure) your seals will have to be bad.

On a turbo what is the difference between seals and bearings? People often talk about replacing one or the other, but when I look at turbo rebuild kits, all I see is bearings, and a few screws (maybe a backing plate every now amd then).

Part 22 is the seal. Part 28 is the bearing.

The bearing essentially floats between the shaft and the center cartridge in a thin film of oil keeping friction to a minimum. The seal basically seals the oil chamber of the center cartridge from the compressor and the turbine sections so oil doesn't flow into them.
