Hey guys I got a question. With my RB Im running open turbo elbow right now, and my question is, am I losing power without running exhaust?

Im paying a buddy off for his 4" exhaust hes selling me, and when its paid, Im putting it on, but till then, am I losing HP and TQ till then?

The way my friend expalined it to me was turbos like hot exhaust gasses, the hotter you can keep the turbine side, the better...hot gasses flow faster then cold, hence more flow and back pressure.

So ya...thanks guys

I don't see how you would be losing power. The RB is turbo. Your might actually be freeing power. The faster you get rid of exhaust the better. I don't know about the back pressure, thats mostly a NA motor thing. Ex: KA

Isn't that like incredibly loud?

Turbo motors have a lot of back pressure, before the turbo, so the less restriction you have after the turbo the better.

The exact reason I run the buddy club spec II exhaust, its basicly a an open down pipe that exits at the rear bumper.

But that is STILL a full exhaust, and there has got to be a power gain atleast in torque from that

I'm willing to put money on that the only way to tell any differance in power between an open elbow/down pipe and a buddy club spec II will be to put it on a dyno, and if it is more than a 5 hp/5 ft/ib tq differance I'll s*** bricks. And the differance in power will most likly be in favor of the open elbow/ down pipe.

So once again YOU ARE NOT HURTING A THING BY RUNNING AN OPEN TURBO ELBOW.

And to more acuratly answer your question, the more heat that stays in the exhaust before the turbo the more energy(hotter exhaust gasses) you have going through the turbo which will help it to spool faster. After the exhaust goes through the turbo the only thing you want it to do is get the f*** out as fast as possible.

You could have spent 10 min on google and got that answer, but instead you were lazy and wanted someone to spoon feed you the info.

Its like an inch away from the edge of the flange, hence, fresh air is constatly getting rushed back in.

About the only time that the o2 will get any amount fresh air is when you turn off the car and exhaust gas is no longet flowing out. Remember for ambiant air to get into the exhaust the pressure in the exhaust has to be lower than the ambiant. Now I'm not saying the o2 will never see fresh air while the car is running but the times it does will be short and have little to no effect.

Riiiight, so thats why cars get s***ty gas mileage when they have an exhaust leak by the o2 sensor, im done here, thanks for no help at all.

I'v never heard of a car with an exhaust leak by the o2 getting bad gas mileage, bad o2 sensor causing it but never a leak. But I could see a leak causing that, depending on the shape of the hole, the exhaust flowing by the hole could cause a venturi effect and suck in fresh air, but it would have to be up stream on the o2.

For f***s sake if your f***ing worried about it stop being a little b**** and and put an exhaust on your car or stop driving it untill you do, is it really that hard for you to figure out on your own.

I could say the same about you, especially when you get an answer that you don't want hear.

Anyways, you should just go kill yourself now as that would be the best thing for everyone at this point.

This is a little off topic but a good read nontheless. It's a recent thread so people will still be adding on to it later.
