yes. its called twincharge. its obsurdly difficult and overly complex.

the idea is you run a HUGE turbo, like a T78, with a clutch type roots supercharger. the supercharger kicks off once the turbo spools. it involves too many bypass valves, and is marginally better than a single turbo. its also very expensive.

its an oldskool 80's thing. i belive the only people who really went for it was the oldskool mr2 guys. HKS offered a twincharge kit for a VERY limited time. with the advancement of ball-bearing turbos i dont see an advantage of a twincharge over a properly sized ball bearing turbo setup.

It's possible, but pointless. Besides the fact that you can say you did it.

I was just thinking about this. how about a twincharger but the supercharger is fed into the exhaust manifold rather than the intake manifold. This causing the a large turbo such as the T-78 to spool extremley quickly. I think this would work. does anyone see any problems with this idea?

True. It just seems like you could spend you're money a lot more efficiently. The fab work would cost a pretty penny.

into the exhaust would be bad. Even more nasty gasses going back into the cylinder through the exhaust valves.

It was a kit for the first gen MR2's (supercharged from the factory in 88 and 89) and they did make stupid power 350ish on 1.6L 4AGE (awsome motor)

Sport compact car is *planning* on doing it on their Mini Cooper S project car (the one that is flatish black) It's on their website curretnly i think.

Actually its not very hard at all, and the supercharger doesn't need to be bypassed once the turbine comes on boost either. The root style supercharger will allow for almost instant boost and ton of low end torque. That way you can run a what would normally be to large of a turbine. This allows for low and high end flow. A mag just did it on a MR2 with a V6 swap.

If you can get the mounts for a root style supercharger, then the cost shouldn't be extremely bad. I'd venture to say it could be done for under 6grand if you were good a fabbing some parts. Things like mounts and plumbing.
