Can anyone tell me what exactly this does as far as shifting for the transmission, I found that the previous owner of my Q never replaced it even though the dealer told him the car needed it, my car has a slightly slow 2nd to 3rd shift and has had all the transmission maitnence done to it within the last 9000 miles.

The turbine sensor measures the output speed of the torque convertor. You have engine speed from CAS, which is same as torque convertor input shaft speed, turbine sensor speed , and transmission output speed [called speed sensor]/driveshaft input speed.

All are necessary inputs to the transmission ecu to determine what and when to do it .
