so i have a ecu and i want to fine tune it with my safc neo...should i still get a wide band or a least the air fuel ratio gauge???ive been reading and alot of people use the wide band but since i alreadly have an afc then im going to use that...what is better tuning???

Research more. Ill help you out a bit but you really need to do more reading.

SAFC is a fine tuning device that commonly leads to blown motors.

Wideband O2 sensor is a device that tells you your air fuel ratio so that when you tune, you know what your doing and dont blow your motor.

You need at least a wideband o2 sensor+controller and a tuning system to tune yourself. Or you can take it to a dyno and let them do it for you. If you want my advice, let a dyno do it for you.

yeah im going to let the dyno do it...so your saying that if i fine tune my car with the afc then the chances of blowing my motor will be higher???

so will i need the wide band with the controller or just an air fuel ratio gauge???i just want to make sure so that i dont spend money on things i dont need...

Wideband sensor works w/ a airfuel ratio gauge, they come together when you buy them for example AEM UEGO wideband kit which comes w/ gauge and wideband sensor. the sensor is connected to your exahust pipe, should be before the cat @ 9-3 o clock. the sensor gives you the afr reading from the exhaust gas that is exitin from the engine and sends it to the gauge so that you can tell what your afr's are. you cant use only the wideband w/out the gauge. you get?

It is better to own a wideband so that if one day something goes crazy you can tell whats going on w/ your air/fuel ratio. also if you have mail order ecu tune(enthalpy, JWT) then afcneo is one of the best way to fine tune.

or, if you're low on cash then dont get wideband and take it to the dyno shop, so that they can tune your afcneo for you. since all dyno shops have wideband, usually they get readings off your tailpipe which is good if you dont have a cat. but do-able if you're running a cat, its just that free air can mix w/ your exhaust gas giving inaccurate afr readings.

So to make it short get a wideband and know that you're running a safe afr and fine tune w/ afc. if you want you can try to learn how to do it, but this is only if you have a wideband. afc are good for fine tune, dont recommend them for people who going ka-t and only using afc(piggyback), But do-able.

If you plann on having a super reliable car then you have to invest in enthalpy, JWT, or best is standalone(thats if you have the money).

usually people blow their motor because they are stupid kids who are too anxious to play w/ their afc and are guessin their afr. thats why we have sooo many blown ka-t's out there. also bad tuners (emance)

best bet IMHO is to hit the dyno with an afr printout along wioth you hp/trq graph ot the ecu tuner you are using, that way they have an rpm vs afr and other usefull info found in a dyno chart....

afc can be bad if you are not careful, they advance timing when you add fuel and remove it when taking away fuel....

Your stock o2 sensor is not a wideband o2 sensor.

I think he is talking about getting a narrow band which hooks up to your ecu and reads off your o2 sensor which is crap!

wideband sensor is different from o2 sensor. when you buy something like the aem wideband it's a standalone kit. you would have to drill a hole in the exhaust pipe(before cat) and weld a bung for the wideband.

check out http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources.php click on video.

they show you how to install wideband so you have an idea of what it does. they give you 101 info so its good info.

best bet is to not even mess with it....take it to a tuning shop W/ a WIDE BAN (the shop has one to tune your car with) let them do it. Or spend the money on a real wide ban and put in on your car and let a tuning shop tune it. if the kit doesnt come with a up-stream O2 sensor(before the cat) don't buy it.
