tuning with linux..

so. i have an eprom thingy and am trying to figure out how to use it. but i was reading thru the sticky and i saw somthin about u need to run live edit on windows. i have ubuntu 9.1 cuz it doesnt have issues with viruses and stuff so i dont wana lose my documents.so wat are some alternative ways to burn a chip?/ get software.idk if this goes in the computer section or not.. but since its ca tuning relatedi put it here

Are you using one of those cheap little laptop things that came pre-installed with linux? I thought those things came with wine pre-installed. Or maybe you do have to install it. Anyway, my votes for Wine.

VirtualBox [virtualbox.org] with some windows installation is probably your best bet... and (just because it urks me), it's Ubuntu 9.10, not 9.1... it means October 2009, 9.1 would be January 2009

nope not crappy laptop...and opps sorry its 9.10 just mis typedand i ran into a new problem.. of not knowing how to do anything having to do with the chip making part and all. there a sticky on this somewhere? i cant find one

edit: ok i no theres lots of stickies and info about it.what i really mean to say is. i no nothing at all. i dont understand anything that i read. tuning is so beyond me. i took it to get "tuned" and after 500 dolla all the guy did was set boost at 14psi and hand me a dyno sheet. and burn half a tank of my gas.so idk if my cars gona blow up or what. but that "tune" didnt do anything for me. im still shootin giant flames. still get 6 mpg. still have sputtering issues while driving. still have odd sounds. that are different everytime i drive the thing.
