I have read about people saying to stay away from the afc but I really just dont have the funds at this time to go with a standalone. I need to just get this thing fine tuned a little more and see these deals on ebay that I would like to pick up. Let me know thoughts and if this is going to be a big mistake

Thanks

if you dont have the funds, then just dont upgrade at the moment.

I guess the next question would be just why? Do they just not work with the rb's or what?

After seeing your other post on how you cant get your RB to run right stock, you should fix that before even considering modifying it more. You should start finding out that issue first before throwing more money at it with a crappy fuel controller thats not even needed....

anyone else besides for shocker? My car is running right now and really rich for some reason. Sorry I asked, I just felt the car needs a slight tune to help. Give me a damn chance here, dont know all you know I guess. Thought these forums were for discussion, which I have initated with this topic. Please stay on topic if you are going to put a post in here instead of trying to start up ****. Just trying to learn more about my car and find out WHY products will or will not work.

You need to fix the issues that you have now before you go on. Anyway, because of the way the stock ecu works the s-afc is only good for low power levels. When the stock ecu sees too much load it pulls timing and dumps fuel. The s-afc will ony solve half of a big problem. That's why it's not worth it.

ok, define low power.

Have you used safc? Are you talking from experience, or from what has been said?

Not trying to be a jerk btw.

I had no problem cranking 300 all day long on safc 2. Thats more than enough for a street car honestly.

IMO uless you have a honda/like pretty colors/have the cash(why would you buy safc then), then find yourself an safc 2 and use the extra to find yourself a wideband.

My car use to run extremly rich too Im running the rb25, but I have the SAFC II and I couldnt get it to tune the fuel down. So I bumped the timing up and it run a million times better. It still runs rich at Idle and lean under boost. Its mostly your Stock ECU, The AFC will only over-ride the ECU, Mine After it runs a while gets warmed up when I shut it off it will not crank back without flooding itself out. So I wired my fuel pump to a switch so when I start it It wont kill the plugs. As far as tuning through RPM's it seems to work good with a WideBand O2. If you dont have that then the AFC will do you no good. because you cannot tell a difference by ear only by the gauge numbers and the laptop recordings. So honestly your going to spend 350+ for an AFC and at least 300 for a wideband. Its worth waiting for a good ECU. I have seen the AFC work alot better on a Honda application, The RB's are too ECU dependent to really get a good tune from them.

So if your car is running too rich!!! Check the timing first, see were it is set at, if its around 15-20 degrees try bumping it up a degree or 2 and see if that helps.

300hp I guess the S-safc is fine. But i didn't do the swap for that much HP (cmon now my G35 is making ~270hp...)I bought the s-afc but never used it. I've had stock ecu-> power fc -> aem ems currently. A stock pfc or ems has gives a great power advantage over the stock ecu. almost all of that is attributed to the added timing. The stock RB25 loves timing down low too.

I personally have not experienced the rich and retard function of the stock ecu. That's because it's well documented and in my opinion, a cause of a good amount of rb failures. I made sure I never had to experience it.

yeah, but 300 is decent for an rb20. Plus your comparing a 2003+ luxury sport g35 around 3000 lbs to an 1989+ 240sx with a 90s engine around 2700(?).
