i just got my 96 240sx, and its got 119k on it, kinda lot, i know, and it needs a tune up. i also want to add performance to it, so i'm thinking i'd give it a performance tune up, genius huh? anyways, i'm looking into replacing the spakrs, wires, possibly rotor and cap(they may make a funny sound) fuel filter, clean out the intake area, change the thermostat(seperate repair actually), i need help figuring out which parts to get. i know nology make the best wires, but i'm not paying double for nology wires as opposed to accel wires

my list:-accel 300 wires, or wahtever, bout $60-sparks? sugggestions? how do i get NGK? :help -fuel filter.... does it make a differenc with a performance one, if it exists? -rotor - doubt i cna get an upgraded one

anyways, thanks, matt

for a tune up, stock plug wires, spark plugs, and rotor work beautifully.

you're not going to get more performance out of aftermarket plugs and wires anymore then OEM parts. Don't fall for the lame marketing attempts out there for quad-nuclear platinum plated iridium quantum flux capaciter spark plugs because it's not true.

so do you suggest just going to the dealer and getting regular NGK plugs and wires? how much will it run me?

i would get accel wires, i got them and could tell a difference. also get a 300zx tt fuel filter because it will flow fuel better and its like the same price $10. all these wont give you a lot of performance but they are better than stock and its a good start.

you'd find that if you do a normal, thorough tune-up, you'd probably free up 3-5hp, though that's not much, any mods you do will have a more positive effect than a poorly maintaned engine. It was recommended to me to flush the engine and transmission, clutch cylinders and run a quality brake fluid. a quality fuel/oil filter, new intake filter element (here's where aftermarket will help) and you should be good to go. please comment on this if anyone has anymore info or where I'm jacked up, I'm looking for a s14 as well, and although the sr's going in, I need it to run for at least a year. My particular swap will be expensive (hehehe ;-) )

Give it up for the Delivery drivers.

When i did mine i went with Nology wires and Splitfire plugs.. There was NO seat of the pants difference. But Honest to god the motor had a different sound, slightly deeper.

I use MSD ignition stuff for everything except plugs. I also put these u groove accel plugs in my car I noticed a difference right away on my 75 malibu. I now use that stuff for all my cars. I'm thinking about buying this Hy Fire multi spark thing that works pretty good on my friends cars go to http://www.jegs.com they have everything you'll need.

NGK plugs are the best you can buy for Nissan's. Either stock wires or NGK wires work great as well as stock cap and rotor. You buy all that ingintion msd stuff and you might get 4hp for a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. Use the money for a stock tune-up and a pulley or something.

totally agree, u will only get minimal hp gains from plugs, wires etc., and the price on those bad boys adds up, so use the money u save to get better mods
