It all comes down to how in depth you want to go. I'm new to it, myself, so I can't vouch for what to use, but I know a lot of guys with mild street builds go with Nistune, and your guys with the more serious builds tend to go with AEM EMS and Power FC. When I switch over to standalone, I'm going with AEM for the simple fact it can use the gauges I've already installed in my car, and almost every shop around knows how to use AEM. I recommend you do a LOT of reading if you plan on tuning the car yourself.

AEM is good, very user friendly. It's a american company with good customer support, I have a few buddies that run AEM standalones and are very happy.

Their piggybacks I wouldn't bother with though.

Nistune, AEM EMS, Apexi Power FC, Haltech, ViPec, just to name a few of the popular ones. Nistune would be the cheapest, but offer the least of the other ones.

Why are you trying to tune it? What all is actually done to your S14?

Never heard of that. The closest thing I can think of to what you're describing is Nistune.

You would have to chip the ECU (Nistune or Calum RT) before you could tune it with consult cable. What mods do you have? Although the AEM standalone is nice, it may not be neccessary if you're car is close to stock.

This is what I'm expecting, and if so, I don't see why he's trying to tune it.

you cant really "tune" via obd2. your consult cable is used more for feedback on what your motor is doing.

i think your thinking of a socketed ecu, which is simply tuning the stock ecu after you have modified it to accept different eproms that have your tune built into them. there are a few ways to do this, and i by no means know everything but i know a little. Before you do anything you need a socketed ecu, you can buy daughterboards online for your dual cam ecu that make it able to accept new eproms. then you have a few options, one is like guess and check where you get a chip burner and write new tunes, burn chips with your tune on them, and plug them into your newly socketed ecu and see how your car preforms using your consult port. as you probably can see, this isnt the best way because there is lots of room for error without realtime data. Your other option is to get whats called an emulator, which is pretty much plugs into your ecu and gives you realtime data and most importantly allows you to tune in real time. in all honestly, the most straightforward option would be to use Nistune as it will do what you want and eliminate lots of confusion. hopefully that all makes sense, tuning can be very confusing.

as far as programs i use tunerpro for the actual rom editing and ECU talk for communicating via consult, both of those are freeware.

check out hybridka.com tons of good info there

my S14 is complety stock. There is some money that im just wating to arrive so i can get an SR20DET black top. I just need something to start playing with it and learn about error thats what the life is about. Theres no other way to learn. So I see I better get a emulator and see whats going on without touching anything inside the maps.
