Hey guys new to the forum long time lurker I have a 1991 JDM 300zx twin turbo 2+2 pretty much completely original oem with the exception of greddy intake, cat back and profec e-01 boost controller. I had the cats gutted a few weeks ago and a po deleted the lines that inject air into the exhaust. The car pulls really good as seems to be in perfect running form basically completely understand molested. I only have the boost tuned up to about 10.5psi which brings me to my point I'm pretty sure it's still running the stock tune and I was your guys opinion on the best way to go. I am looking at the z1 ecu upgrade but by the time I send my core back and with the exchange rate and all it would be around 450$ cad. I have the technical ability to install the 28 pin socket but and buy the 100$ chip from z1 but I can't find anyone selling the socket shipping to Canada and finally the last option is nistune being aud I can get the whole set up for 500 cad but have no prior tuning knowledge so what do you guys think is my best option? Thanks.

Nistune allows actual tuning, the chip from Z1 is just a generic tune, it can accommodate your larger injectors but still leaves room for a margin of error as it's not actually tuned by the output of a specific car. I'm sure there electronic supply houses in canada that can sell you the socket, and if you made a call to Z1 i'd bet they could include the socket for a few extra dollars. I'd be real surprised if the larger suppliers like mouser did not ship to canada land.

Where are you located? I cant send you a socket for a few dollars to cover postage.

Let me know.

Agreed with the above, off the shelf tune will let you boost a couple psi more, but a custom dyno tune is recommended.

I will take you up on that offer itsa300zx I live in newfoundland canada just shoot me a pm and we'll work out the details. I think I will just go with a z1 chip for now and install the socket myself and maybe look at nistune in the future when I decide to add larger injectors or some other mods. At least with the z1 chip I can boost up to 15 without being concerned for the safety of my engine

Good luck with everything, and definitely look to a dyno tune of your actual setup for the most satisfactory safe setup. However, do some research into the ECU tuning as my tuner says Nistune has changed unsatisfactorily and no longer uses it due to in his opinion being no better than Apexi and other ECU tuning (can't address some important areas any longer he says)...which leaves something to be desired in my case (unstable-ish idle, no idle or temp tune adjustability) and opinion. Therefore I will be bucking up for Haltech in the future for a final high end tune, and living with the 90+% happiness I have now with Apexi.
Just something to think about...

Yeah I bought a couple of sockets off of itsa300zx, real stand up guy. A dyno tune is almost impossible as I live in the middle of nowhere so I'll have to live with a generic canned tune for the time being to keep things safe. If what you said is true about nistune then I'm glad I didn't spring for it. Guess I'll start saving for a haltech

Seems workable, and yep- saving for haltech myself.
