i might be buying an s13 w/ Ca18det..the guy says it needs to be "tuned", needs exhaust, needs windshield, then needs alot of other expensive things...only wants $4500 for it

he said it runs rough and that he is using the stock Ka24de computer with the Ca18det, and that is the problem because it is getting too much fuel..

what else would be necessary to get it running right ?? how hard is it to get these to pass emissions ??

If what you say is true, you're about to inherit someone's nightmare that's plagued with botched bootleg rig-ups. Stay away.

PS My advice is to you is, if you're looking to buy an already assembled car and planned on spending that kind of money, save your money and (A) wait for a member who has a functioning car, but has grown tired of his bucket or (B)Pay someone to build you a solid car with the CA included.

Yeah $4500 isn't really that great a deal considering how cheap the CA is and how cheap S13s are.

You don't want to spend money on that to find that the engine is blown and you're going to need to replace everything anyway.. IF that happesn you'll be spending more than if you just bought a clean S13 with a blown KA and a CA swap.

Yea, that's really not that great of a deal. I'd stay away from it.

IDK how long you're wanting to wait, but I'm planning on selling my current S13 as I'm going to put the motor in another S13 I just bought. This chassis is in decent shape, it's got a Silvia conversion and new paint. Its the car in my signature. I was going to drop the KA from the other car into this chassis and sell it, but if you're interested I'd be more than happy to do a swap for you so that you would just have a turn-key swapped S13.

You can email me here.

$4500 for a hack-job ca swapped s13 is way overpriced. I bought my s13 already swapped, and done right, for $3000... and drove it 200 miles home. This guy either doesn't know what hes talking about (as I have a really hard time believing the ca is running on the ka computer/harness - for starters the ca has 4 coil packs, where the ka has a distributor and single coil). Even on the odd chance that it is running off the ka computer - the harness will definately be a hack job to make it work. You will most likely need to re-do the wiring part of the swap, and get another ecu (thats like ~$300+ right there minus the work), and on a hack job like that - who knows what else has been cheap assed on the car. I hope you dont seriously think you can just drop in a ca ecu and be good - things have been changed in the harness significantly to run the ca(if it is in fact a ka ecu) STAY AWAY FROM IT! Buy an s13 cheap with a blown up engine/trans - and do the swap yourself, or have a shop do it. Why you would even take the effort to rig up a ka computer to run a ca poorly is beyond me... Its not even like a ca swap is a high dollar swap.

Back on topic: what are some less expensive tuning options for the CA? I just wanna run 14-15 psi through an SR T25, I dont wanna drop 1k on tuning.

For 14-15 psi you will need larger injectors, preferably larger maf, and a rom chip that removes fuel cut, and is tuned for the different injectors/maf. The dsm(eclipse, talon, etc) 450cc injectors and an n60 maxima maf would be your cheapest options.

Where can I get a rom chip though? I dont know much about tuning, I wont need retarded timing for that psi will I?

As for where to find a chip - there are a few people around that can make them. I am currently waiting on a couple cheap ones I got off ebay($40-$50 shipped) - and if they don't work, or better yet do work... Ill let everyone here know the result. Either way you will need to get a socket for the eprom chip soldered in your ecu(which unless you are good at soldering I would recomend you get done by someone else that can do it), I have been soldering for a long time - and will be doing both chips on the two test cars(my 89 ca18det 240sx, and my friends turbo '97 200sx se-r with a '93 nx2000 ecu).
