Hi there,

I am from the honda camp where if you do anything like change an injector size or a camshaft you should tune the vehicle via hondata, chrome, etc. Basically chip the ecu and tune or use an safc, vfac, etc.

I've been reading on the sr20det swap for awhile now and no one seems to mention anything about what they'll be tuning the vehicle with...... am I right in guessing it's all just plug and play and the sensors will sort everything out?

The reason I ask is that I'll be soon doing an SR20DET swap. I know I'll need the various parts including the ecu, Z32MAF, etc. I will be changing out the turbo to something larger as well as the injectors. The hope is to reach 260-300whp.

Does tuning via a Power FC or other need to be considered for this goal or will everything sort itself out thanks to the sensors.

Thanks for any help Nico members.-Rik

First thing is get the sr20 in and running. If you're looking to make the power as a dd (which is normal up to 300 crank hp), then really the stock parts, plus exhaust should do the trick, with boost turned up a little. I'd reccomend just running some guages to monitor the A/F, boost pressure, oil psi, exhaust temp etc. There are plenty of products out there to tune your car and I believ if you search, you'll find the perfect product for your setup. (USE THE SEARCH BUTTON PLEASE!!!)

Hey there,

Thanks for the information. Trust me, I do use the search function but with swaps no one talks about what they use to tune their vehicles with, hence why I made this post.

Since having made this original post though I've purchased an Apexi Neo which should be able to handle all the tuning necessities of a larger turbo/injectors/exhaust.Thanks for the help.-Rik

well using a safc and such doesnt fully tune your vehicle. what is does, it lies to your ecu. i would recommend doing the swap , and run all stock, untill you have a bigger turbo /z32 maf/ and larger injectors. pick up another sr ecu, and ship it out to JIM WOLF. it takes a while, but i would rather do it the rite way. just tell them every thing you have.

i think the only difference with those are the pig nose. 91 - 94 eh? what about those one kind of 240's , like the s14 and s15 that come with sr's?

Heh guys,

I will try my best to address all questions.

Difference in swapping the sr into the 89-90 is the need to aquire a different power steering line, from a 91-94 car.

You can use a hondata rom burner to burn chips for your SR ecu, but you will need to locate a distributor with daughter boards, and a compatible firmware/software combo to read/write chip data through the hondata.

The AFC neo is the WORST upgrade for the sr20 because it utilizes DIS ignition timing based off of the AFM signal. As you use any air flow meter manipulator (AFC etc) to change the AF/ratio;tune for larger injectors;tune for a different turbo, you will change the ignition timing in unknown quantities.

The Power FC offers a great solution for the 450whp and under class, but, you will need it PROFESSIONALLY tuned, or be talented yourself, and either you or your tuner be in possession of the official "Apexi Power Excell Software", or the more popular third party hack out of New Zealand, the FCLoggit.

There are many, many, many Daily driven SR's over 300whp, but they were not fly by night projects, they took leadership, planning, and a focus on the total project.

The best answers I could provide for management solutions are:NOT AFC.Power FC if you have the resources.Plug and play replacement ECU, like the http://www.rpsport.net/category/haltech_info/ Haltech or AEM EMS.

Doing this, you will definitely be doing it right!

Awesome Post. Thank you so much for shedding some light on the sr swap I have planned.

One thing to note for the poster looking to put the sr20 into his '89. You'll be in my boat where you have to also get a speedocluster out of a '91.-Rik
