best1tuning is the only person stateside that can do it, bear in mind its about 800$ to do so but the results are good.weigh your options.

Hanna @ best1 tuning can do it and like Carl H said the results are good from what ive seen. 500hp has been done on it. You send him your ECU and they remove the processor and install a daughter board in its place which holds the processor and tells it to read from a programable chip.

It also allows an emulator to be used as well. I talked to Hanna and the reason they are so expensive is the parts necessary are very hard to find and expensive. He does it because he wanted to give people the option of using a stock ECU.

send them your stock ecu and they'll tune it for you! claim 320 bhp read more about it... and last time i talked with the tunner there i was quoted $450 i think. shipped to my door! not bad at all.

or you can go with a Mines chip. email me if you're interested on a MINES ecu chip..

I'm using an rb20 ecu in place of my rb25 ecu to tune. Chip tuning using TunerProRT software and an address file I put together. Made 711whp on the dyno, so seems to be working pretty well.

I didn't want to confuse anyone since my combination is complicated, RB20 ecu, RB25 harness and sensors, RB26 engine. When I originally did the 26 swap I used the RB25 ecu for a few months, worked fine until I wanted to go to larger injectors and then I switched to the 20 ecu so I could tune it. So basically, Carl is right, it might as well be a bored rb25 - ecu doesn't know any differently.

Hanna @ best1tuning +1

I've had my car at his shop twice. The price is a little steep compared to a z32, but a steal compared to powerfc. From what I've seen, the stock ecu does a little bit better than the powerfc.

having owned a pfc and being dissapointed in performance as well as usability the stock ecu wins hands down.i'll take the slightly reduced map size (16x16 vs 20x20) in favor of knock capabilites and knock maps...not to mention it RUNS like a stock car.

I agree. The pfc is bread... and to do all the datalogit nonsense is another 350-500 just to make it user friendly/tunable.

Ordered a PFC and sent it back.

In most cases, evo/honda/nissan, the oem knock filters are an added protection that makes me feel more comfortable.

AEM/Stock ECU FTW

I'm not sure I'd put too much faith in the stock ecu's knock control since it only covers a limited rpm range. Although, I don't have much faith in the PFC's knock detection either, I've heard audible knock from a PFC tuned engine while the commander was showing a minimal knock reading...

tuning the stock ecu you can engage the knock sensor feedback where ever you like, but as stated in a previous thread high rpm/power/boost can result in 'engine noise' that the knock sensor hears as knock and will shift into knock maps.

any idea what the address is for altering knock sensor rpm range? I've never come across it..

I could provide you the code string but there is a much easier way to do it....I actually turn it off durring tuning and use an alternate knock sensing device, which is more accurate. Then I turn it on at a specific RPM and load where knock most commonly occurs.

With the more modified motors, the valve train and other components provide alot of additional noise which can create "phantom knock" or a false knock signal.

I actually sell the electronics in bulk to rising sun performance in the UK.

does this modification self adjust to the mods the motor has, or is there something else that has to be done.

bump,

and does nissan datascan, and Obd2 or whatever its called from blazt.com actually work. thought about it. kinda cheap and would be nice for a slightly modded Rb25.

Blazt works, but I prefer NisTune SW. Don't get tuning packages confused with their actual EMS's.

Spend $100 on a Z32 ECU,$300 on a NisTune Type 2 board,$75 on a Consult cableand whatever NisTune charges for their SW and be done with it.

Glenn is their US distributor, ship him a Z32 ECU and he will solder the NisTune board in, and load a base-map for you. (Or Carl H for that matter).

But before we get waaay ahead of ourselves, begin looking into ECU / EMS tuning. How comfortable are you with reading traces and maps / tables?

Also, have a _reliable_ wideband with outputs (If you have an AEM, throw it in the trash, make a tight fist, and then proceed to punch yourself in the crotch a few times - just for good measure).

What would be the exact problem with the AEM wideband?

its trash, best installed from the box directly in the rubbish bin.
