Hey guys, as everyone can see Ive got my 2 ca18det projects up for sale right now. That being said, if there is no interest I'm going ahead with the project and doing a motor swap for a fresher ca18det. I have a question about tuning. I know I've listed before but here are the specs

87 pulsar nx se
bagged ca18det (ran 13.8s 1/4 mile in its fastest form)
fmic
t25 turbo modified to flow t28 specs
550cc injectors
z32 fuel pump
z32 maf
ca16de wire harness
ca16de ecu socketed with JimWolf Tech rom for the above mods

From what I'm told, the Jim Wolf guys just do a basic rom for the mods, dump a bunch of fuel into it and its done. Obviously this makes the car run, but Id like to have something reliable.

I wont be pushing the motor past a t28 turbo (18-20psi) and I wont be upgrading anything else internally right now. The car ran strong for 5 years of abuse with that turbo and JimWolf Tech ecu. My question is, I have local tuners that will tune AEM EMS or Nistune only. Seeing as the car has a factory ecu with upgraded rom, and I dont want to go really beyond the mods the car has now, do I really need to go crazy with a tune? Can I get away with lets say, an SAFC controller or something? Maybe a Greddy E-Manage? I have everything I need (if they dont sell) to do my long block swap and put a fresh stock ca18det motor into her. IE: it wont cost me anything other than time. I really am having a hard time stomaching the $1500-2000 bill for an AEM EMS and I do not want to be fiddling with Megasquirt.

Thoughts? Maybe the JWT ecu is enough?

Thanks for input guys!

Jay

If it's been running with the JWT for that many years, then I wouldn't change much. I would add a SAFC to clean-up the excess fuel dumpage caused by JWT's basic tune. And to be honest, $1500 is a steal for a standalone nowadays. If you can't install nor tune one, then you'll have the another problem.

My local shop says they can tune AEM EMS, bit $1500-2000 for a ems for a car thats worth maybe $2500 if im lucky... lol..

i think the safc just to clean up the extra fuel like you said is the prudent route.

Why not Nistune. Way less money, they can tune it, stock everything. It's become VERY popular on this forum, and is also popular in other parts of the world, so there is a lot of support for it.
