Purchased 97 Q45 with 120K 3 month ago. Previous (original) owner has never done major maintenance, just motor and transmission oil/fluid changes. After purchase, I replaced the radiator and did a brake job.

After couple of month driving, the engine check light is on and the car is driving little rough.

I want to do a full tune up for my car and just need little advice what to do.

New spark plugs should make a significant difference. If the engine is running rough, there's a decent chance one or more of the ignition coils could need to be replaced. If your car rides rough when it hits bumps and potholes (and even if it doesn't), there is a very good chance the struts on the car need to be replaced. Not only will new struts improve the safety of your car via better handling, they will restore the "ride" of the car so it's like new.

For ignition coils, should I go with OEM/Hitachi or aftermarket? The after market is only about $200 for all 8 vs $580 for OEM/Hitachi.

Here's the links for the 2 parts.

I just had all my coils replaced with Hitachi aftermarket. Back when they first came out they were Hitachi (from what I've heard) but they were not allowed to print it on the aftermarket box (plain white box with part numbers). When you purchase them now (which I did about 2-3 weeks ago) I found all the boxes are Hitachi logo boxes.

From everything I've heard from my mechanic and parts guy, Hitachi makes the OEM Infiniti coils, so I'd save the bucks and go aftermarket Hitachi.

Like MKSeaHawk said, while your in there, go ahead and do the plugs. I personally went with NGK Iridium plugs.

Good Luck!

Do you have the part number for the NGK plugs?

q45pk,

I didn't keep that ticket, sorry. I'm no expert (just got my 2K Q45 AE this past Nov.). If you decide to go with NGK Iridium plugs, I got mine from Olympus Imported Auto Parts. If there isn't one in your area give them a call, they will ship I'm sure. I've never tried their website because there are a ton of storefronts where I live.

I kind of stick with them because I know a guy who has been with them forever and really seems to know his stuff. He will tell me honestly when I should stick with him or "bit the bullet" and go Dealership, which is real nice.

You can probably pick them up just about anywhere, NGK is huge! To make it simple just hit your local autoparts store and give them your year, make and model and anyone(I imagine) should be able to get them for you.

Wow, FIRST THINGS FIRST!! not one single poster in this thread told you to start at the beginning before randomly throwing parts at it .......that bright yellow "check engine light" glowing in your face is your friend and trying to get your attention, just like a crying baby does when it needs something........plug in a obd2 code reader and see what it is trying to tell you,it will lead you to the cause of your performance problem.
