i have a 96 i30 base model and it has 182k miles. i bought it with 92k miles. since purchased i have never done a tune-up on it. i dont even know if there was one ever done on it. in the past 2 weeks i've replaced all the spark plugs, air filter, pcv valve & fuel filter. my ? is what else can i do to improve its reliability and performance without mechanic for a complete tune-up? i've heard that flushing and replacing all fluids helps as well as cleaning hoses too. how do i do it? would i be able to do a trans flush & trans filter replacement or should i take it to a shop for that? can anyone plz help me? i'd appreciate any response. thank you very much.

Clean the MAF sensor (zero-residue Contact Cleaner or CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner), Throttle Body (do not spray 'carb' cleaner directly, use rag to clean), IACV and EGR. Instructions are available in the forum 'sticky.'

Replacing all the fluids is highly recommended. The brake fluid is probably dark/black by now due to contamination and can cause brake fade/failure in an emergency. The radiator drain plug is on the pax side and you can use a Philips screw driver to loosen it. Buy regular coolant and distilled water and then mix them, 50-50. Make sure you 'burp' the system several times after filling it up to release trapped air. You can siphon the old P/S and replace with Dexron III/VI, then run engine and turn wheels to maximum position for @ 5 seconds each several times and repeat the siphon-refill process.

With your mileage and since no service was done from 92K miles, no decent shop will do a flush due to liability issue (the flush chemical may release so much gunk in the system, causing more damage). Your best option is to do a pan drop, clean the pan and magnets and replace the filter then do multiple drain and refill. Make sure the engine is warm and ATF is at correct level before draining the ATF and dropping the pan. You have to watch out and take note when removing the filter as the sizes of the bolts are different and there is one nut. Take a picture if you have to. You can buy gasket and filter kit from IoS (Infiniti of Scottsdale) - infinitipartsUSA.com, 25% off MSRP.

Recommended ATF is Nissan Matic-D but Dexron III and the newer and better Dexron VI will do the job. You may need 12-15 quarts depending on the number of drain and refill you will do. The pan mounting bolts are 'one-time use' but other members have reused them without any problem. You can apply thread locker if you want. After installation of filter, new gasket and pan, fill it up with the exact amount of ATF drained. Run the engine for @ 100 seconds while shifting gears and then repeat the drain and refill process. I usually do 3 drain-and-refills. On the final cycle, make sure you use new crush washer (@ $0.85 from IoS), same as the one used on the engine oil drain plug.

Again, there are lots of useful procedures/how-to in the 'sticky. 'Good luck.

Where did you search? The first 5 threads in this forum are the 'stickies.' The last one, "most Important..." is where you can find procedures/how to info.
