I had a tune up done on my 97 q45 last weekend, and today driving to work my SES light came on. So I want to advance auto to check the code here they are P0305 & P0325 KNOCK SENSOR ERROR & MISFIRE ON CYNLINDER #5. I called the mechanic that work on my car and ask him did he used NGK plugs he said no he used BOSCH. I said why I told him to get NGK I dont care how much they cost. So I will be going to him tomorrow to change these plugs to see if this fix the problem with the misfire on cynlider #5. Now for the knock sensor code do I need to replace this if so I can have him do that while he changing the plugs, or are this is a common problem for q45.

Thanks

What did you tell your mechanic to use originally, NGK (OEM) or Bosch (VH killer)?

He has to change them out ASAP and not charge you for it if you said OEM NGK.

I told him to use NGK, he said his parts person order bosch by accident, whatever I will be there tomorrow to get them replace. Should I have him change the knock sensor to while he doing the plugs.

Regardless of the mistake of the parts guy, your mechanic should have known better not to use Bosch if he really knows Q45 AND to follow customer request. Hopefully, the KS code will go away once you have the OEM plugs.

Hey unfortunately everyone who has tried the plugs listed above or even any other plugs has had real bad luck with there car (They had to get another one). Like for instance Unknown007 and the Q45 that I am currently parting out (STILL ).

So the ones you need are the OEM ones: PFR5G-11 (the hot type which are the ones I have and are fine for where we live).

Dealer part number: 22401-1P115

Price:

MSRP: $11.00

*IOS: $8.25

Cost to make: 5¢

*Infiniti Of Scottsdale with there 25% off.

Hi There:

I bought a set of these plugs for only $25.00 for all 8. If I am able to look up the seller, he usually runs a listing on Ebay from time to time. $8-11 dollars per plug is highway robbery IMO. Just do a quick search on Ebay for that plug number and you should find him. **Also, the 95-99 Nissan Maximas and I30s also use the same plugs. I don't know if the "ghost code" for the KS will go away just from changing the plugs to the factory correct ones, but that would be nice if you get lucky.

Depending on how many miles are on your KSs you should change them out if you plan on using the car for a daily driver. There are plenty of great write ups here on the forum for you to change them without having to remove the plenum. Save yourself the expense and potential leaking plenum gaskets/hoses and don't let your mechanical tackle this. Replacing these will save you money through more mpgs as well as less wear and tear on your ignition system.

Good luck!!

Ted

Knock Sensors have something to do with your ignition? Could that be why my car takes a little bit to start up? It goes on the first turn of the key, but its not as fast as I would like it....

Sparkplugs have NOTHING to do with knock sensors........must test and replace defective knock sensors and their harness to clear codes and restore designed performance.

Ted, Please let me know the result once you have installed the new plugs you bought from eBay. I hop[e they are the real OEM and not clones from somewhere else. When I was in the Middle East, they have lots of cheaper clones there too. Once I have to replace headlight 3 times (replacement under warranty) unti lthe local Toyota dealeship realized they have a bunch of imitation headlights. The assembly and box look original, but only found out it was a fake when they dissected the headlight.

Again please let me know the outcome as I have at least 2 carss needing sets of plugs next year. That will be a huge savings if they are for real.

Even at $10 per plug, whats $80 over their lifespan of 60,000-100,000 miles??

One tank of gasoline will cost more than that soon, and only lasts 300-400 miles!

Sorry for the confusion. A KS merely adjusts the timing to compensate for lower octane fuel or other fuel sustem related issues to prevent knocking and damage to the engine. It can also have an effect on the timing/frequency of the coil pack firing -- that is what I meant by it can affect your ignition system. Your problems with your car being hard to start could be a number of things: dirty TB, clogged air filter, bad cam or crankshaft sensor, etc.

Hi there:

In response to your request, I installed these plugs I bought last year and they have now about 2000 miles on them with no problems. Came in the correct NGK boxes and from a reputable seller. I did a quick search on Ebay last night and was shocked at how much these plugs have gone up in less than a year ($90 for set!!). I will try and contact the seller I used to see if he is still selling a set of 8 for a reasonable price and let everyone here know either way.

Thanks!!
