So I just discovered the zshop.ca website and was looking around.
I came across this rear hatch called the Euro Style Rear Tubed Hatch...

http://www.zshop.ca/parts/z32-euro-tubed-hatch/

At first I thought it looked hideous...but then it kind of grew on me...and it would offer a huge benefit...reduced weight. I am not sure how much the glass weighs for our hatches, but I assume it is significant. This tubed hatch would reduce a lot of weight. I am not really a fan of the flat a** on the car, but it might look decent with with like a TwinZ rear spoiler
http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_in ... ts_id=5546
or the Winfactory spoiler http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart ... 79.153.194

One thing is for sure, the car would stand out from other Zs. What do you guys think about it?

Hmmmm, saw this the other day in a car pic and wasn't too enthused. It just is too far from the original design, and too much like the verty flat rear deck which I don't like at all.

Dont do it, it looks like a mkII mr2 and any weight removed would probably be negligible plus you would be removing weight from the wrong end of the car.

I know it would be from the wrong end of the car, but I think it would be significant...but hey, thanks for the opinions, and lets hear more. I know my wife is against it and Im not really of a fan of the look in the first place...I would still have my old hatch if I did do it though...

Ew. I've always hated that hatch. Completely ruins the lines of the car, not to mention the negative pressure it will create behind the glass. Good for fuel economy, s*** for handling.

Not a fan of the look at all. If weight reduction is where your focus is there are a lot of other places to shave pounds: http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/f ... asics.html

I know Powertrix used to make stock style carbon fiber rear hatches that weighed significantly less, the exact weight is mentioned in the article somewhere, but I think they're hard to find now.

Thanks for that. I am familiar with those. I know the cf one weighs less, I was thinking about glass weight though. It would be a lot more than that. Either way, just brainstorming...

In my opinion. That back glass is what gives our cars enough weight to keep traction back there. I know I wont ever be messing with loosing weight back there

So the rear glass gets even smaller?! Might as well just delete the hatch glass completely and use side mirrors all day

Though its probably best to save for track cars due to questionable street legality, have you looked into replacing the glass with lexan?

You could always ad more weight back at a lower point on the frame in order to lower your center of gravity and help even out the distribution. Obviously this is all overkill for your average street car, but there's definitely something to be said for being able to control where the weight is distributed in your car.

idk i might go against the grain a little here but i "kinda " like it, and kinda is only a little, from the side it still holds the original profile pretty well. would i ever buy it , no . could someone pull it off looking "good" maybe. but to each their own,

Surprised nobody mentioned how potentially illegal it is to remove DOT glass on a street car. And the negligble rear view. Diablo owners complained about this when they first came out.
