So this was my first time dismantling a set of heads, and it was a success! Yeah! I kept all the stems and springs in sequence to go back into the same holes because I didn't know if that mattered or not. Does it? Would be nice if it didn't matter so I can just do some bulk cleaning in the parts cleaner ;)

Also, should I follow that TT article on breaking down the valves themselves?

Good job! The valves shouldn't matter what holes they go back in, but it does matter which holes the lifters go into because they wear based on the cam. So each lifter is matched to a specific cam lobe.

By breaking down the valves... do you mean the lifters? The valves are solid.. the long part is the stem

No problem, I've been there lol

Yeah that's a good article to follow if you want to R&R the lifters, I've read thru it once before. How many miles are on the engine anyway? Usually the lifters fail either because they get an oil coating that makes them stick, or the spring inside binds up. The article probably says that somewhere. Some people just choose put that seafoam additive in the oil for 150 miles or so and supposedly it unsticks them/cleans them. If you wanna rebuild though by all means follow that article

Yeah, just figuring while I'm here I just as well. No idea on the miles. Bought it off of Craigslist. Heads down to oil pan. You can see the pics on my build thread.

Ahhhh ok haha I've read thru that thread a couple times now, just didn't connect the dots when reading this thread.

Yeah you should just go ahead and R&R the lifters, especially not knowing the miles. It's much cheaper than buying new ones
