Hey guys,

My 90 NA is bone stock at the moment, and I was looking into upgrading the suspension while I have the engine out. I'm on a budget, so I'm only doing shocks and springs right now. What are the best aftermarket parts for this that aren't way expensive. I'm not looking to lower my ride any and coilovers are way out of my budget.

Thanks!

If you're not looking to lower the Z and you're going for OEM replacement, a busget friendly upgrade would be the KYB GR2 shocks. Those are, I believe, stock replacement. As for springs, Aside from getting OEM, eibach springs are really good as well. They're only less of an inch drop... .08 drop if I remember right.

Yeah that's what I was thinking after a little more research.. either KYB GR2 or AGX shocks with some Eibach springs. And I think you're right the prokit springs are like 0.8" drop. There's also a kit with all 4 springs that's 0.8" drop in the front and 0.2" drop in the rear which would be fine. Anyone know who has the best deal? I looked on CZP and Z1.. they're almost the same I think.

Just FYI after 20 years of use, the stock springs will have settled to some degree. So the Eibach springs may not lower it as much as you may hope. There's specs in the FSM about how high the fender is supposed to be. Either in Body or Suspension. Don't remember which. If you want to know how much the springs are realistically gonna drop the car, I'd take some measurements first. You may decide to go S-tech or H-tech.

Yeah, My Z is still on stock spring and I love the stance. I already have a lowered vehicle and I scrape my under carriage everytime I leave or enter my driveway. My development has this curved curbs. Anyway, I have to approach it at an extreme angle but I still scrape. :squint: So I'm gonna leave mine as is. But I'll measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the wheel well fender and let you know...

What is your budget? You say coilovers are out of your budget, but you don't define it.

Coilovers are on par cost wise with what a proper strut/spring replacement costs. When you add the $300 for all the rubber bits which should be replaced (they are 22 years old afterall), suddenly Powertrix SS coils at $860 shipped don't seem all that expensive.

When KYB AGX + Eibachs + Rubber stuff costs $930 (not including shipping)

Just my two cents. I'd contact Charles at Powertrix directly, and reference this link

BTW, you definitely don't want to use any lowering spring on GR-2s, especially H or S tech Teins. It will ride like dogg s***, as the struts are valved for a softer OEM type spring. Did it on my Corolla, never again.

I honestly don't have a budget defined, but the cheaper the better. That being said don't jump the gun... I won't put anything on my car that isn't a good name brand like KYB or Eibach, but I don't want to spend $1200 just on suspension. It's just not necessary for my kind of daily driving.

I'll make sure NOT to do that lol thanks for the tip

Not sure if my post was clear, but Powertrix coils in the latest group buy would run you $860 shipped. That's it. The $300 extra would only be added to the Eibachs and KYBs, because coils replace or include all that stuff in either metal or new rubber boots.

what do you think about some stock 370z or g35 springs just found a good deal on em, i realize theyd be a hell of a lot stiffer but not too sure about whether i will be riding lower or wearing uneven on the fronts
