If you have $14k, you should be able to find a pretty nice TT, especially since you are in California. Just keep searching and you will find one.

For 14K just search around on autotrader and in the classified sections of the car boards. You'll be able to find a clean TT with probably 80K for that.

Ill give u a head start

If you shop around you should be able to find a pretty nice one for under $15K.

As for rebuilds and such, its going to be an ineviatable part of owning any car, eventually you have to freshen up the motor

I just got through rebuilding my 1990 300zx TT by hand. I'll tell you it was a load of fun and frustration. But, it can be done and long as you take your time. I bought the car for $6 grand, and I thought it only needed a little work. Turns out the turbos were blown, the head gasket was blown, the fuel injector jackets were melted, main engine wiring harness was fried. And a lot of other things were wrong. The main cause of this was the previous owner overboosting the car on a bad water pump. He just detonated the engine, and couldn't figure out why it wasn't starting anymore.

The reason why I paid so much for it was it had a lot of upgrades on it. From exhaust to stainless steel brake lines, the upgrades added up to the cost of the car. That and the car was it beautiful condition and never wrecked. But, in the long run I have invested $8,500 in the car and 3 months of my life to rebuilding it. Its almost done and I can't wait to dyno it and see the fruits of my labor.
