Trying to pick tail lights

I'm seeking some input. I've been having trouble finding some quality tail lights that match the style I'm going for. My dad bought some cheapo ebay tails that look pretty good and are close to what I'm looking for. The only problem is the quality blows a**. They stick a half inch out from the body, came cracked (twice), and are just crap from up close. I've been looking for tail lights for a while, and it seems like there's only a couple different sets that show up on ebay and such.

I'm aiming for the smoked look since it matches really well. I have some really bright LEDs that will shine through well enough. As far as the look goes, the ones I have now are fine. If I were keeping them I'd pull them apart and paint the inside black though. I don't like the chrome look on the inside. I am considering getting the JDM tails and smoking them, but it feels like blasphemy.

Anyone know of any quality smoked tail lights floating around on the interwebs, or know where I might look? Here's what I have (I know, awful, that's why I'm trying to find something else. From further away they look black, which helps):

They aren't smoked but you could tint them yourself, or contact Sonic Motor to see if they have any of the smoked versions in stock.

ive seen them in person, the quality looked fine... but the sqaure pattern texture is very noticable and looks kinda cheap..

i would just paint the crome inside of your current tails, tinted kouki tails would be a bad idea.. the only other option would be tinted stock lights... but they look like crap

I would, except like I said the quality is just awful. I hate how far they stick out.

The pattern on the sonic motors ones might not be bad once painted. Not my favorite look though.

but im not sure if the tails i saw were sonic motors or replicas, who knows

but the sqaure pattern was the texture, like you could feel the square pattern on the tails... which i didnt like at all

anybody with tinted stock tails, how visible are your lights at night, and how dark did you go?

Ebay Altezza tails tinted red looked pretty good to me.
I actually had to buy a different center piece to look a little bit more authenic.

Total cost was around 250$. still WAY under 180sx tails

Chaluska, I actually like those. I think they'd look great smoked almost completely black. Do they fit flush with the body? If you don't mind taking some shots from the side, that would help a lot. I can already see where they don't match the curve of the recess, just like mine, but if they fit flush enough I'll go buy a set.

No, they fit the 180sx lower garnish finisher piece..

BUT, i took the finisher off, and placed a couple washers to space it back about a 1/4". and here is the end result..




there is no overhang, its pretty damn flush. but it does add a tiny 1/16" gap between the ends of the finisher as seen below.

ive looked and can`t find that particular model with the protruding
portion where the bulb would be similar to the koukis
direction would be much appreciated!

these are the exact ones i have, i used a red vinyl to tint the entire housings red.

also, the center piece is very ugly, if you look closely, you will notice there are 3 protruded circles in the center bar, which make the rear end look ugly as sin.

you will need to order one of these to make it look correct.

I got the same ones but I went with the red I like it better than the smoke. This was before I put LED bulbs in them. Its better than the $500+ for the 180's

ehh the pink, I like the half red half white ones. They use to knock them off in smoke too, but I can only find the Origin or D-max ones in smoke now at 300 bucks

To be honest I got them in Ebay all chrome Altezza;s and Tinted the corners red, and bought this from ebay and just used the center piece.
