Trying to make a decision: solid or Prothane mounts

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I got my LS1 + T56 in right where I want it today. I started making the driver's side mount between the crossmember and the stock rubber mount. Got it all tacked in place. I was planning on using Prothane motor and trans mounts. Now I'm debating on just running solid mounts. Opinions?

I'm thinking for now I'll make solid mounts, and if I decide I don't like them, I'll buy Prothane mount inserts later and remake the mounts.

if its a street car - urethane

racecar - solid engine, SOFT TRANSMISSION. very important that the trans stays soft and you dont solid mount the entire thing.

mine is solid and it vibrates something fierce.

Car: lots of unique hot rods, and customs, with modern engines, and a good truck to pull the trailer.

Solid will loosen your fillings in your teeth, n bondo off the car if you have it.Urethane is teh best, does not have to give, just absorb a lil vibration. The trans needs to be a strong soft mount, There are numerous aftermarket companies who make badass mounts for Chevy stuff

I've already built the motor and trans mounts and used Prothane inserts.

I don't like solid mounts on anything. At least for me they make it harder to concentrate.

Only if it's a LSx. The VH is silky smoove with solid mounts according to GSRacer. I believe it too. Even with 2 dead injectors my VH ran smoother than a properly running shree fiddy.

Today at school we have a q45 cylinder 2 and 7 are not firing, thing still runs so smooth only had 127k on it... Don't think injectors where firing. Thinking of hockey puck mounts, how do they rate between solid and poly?

Unless you're running a 4 cylinder or the engine is just naturally unbalanced, it shouldn't vibrate that much. I'd make sure everything is in spec if you have a V8 and it vibrates that much. Even a lot of the V6's don't vibrate all that much.

I've always heard that you're not supposed to mix soft mounts with solid mounts... why do you want to keep the transmission mount soft? If you have solid motor mounts it shouldn't really be moving anyway but by allowing flex in the transmission mounts if there was a lot of force put on it, it seems as though the motor mounts would see unneeded stress.
