Sounds like it's coming from the fan area. Maybe the water pump bearing (or the fan clutch)?

sounds more like upper chain guide noise to me. try picking up a stethoscope at a parts store and checking to see if noise is coming from timing case or water pump.

I agree with him. I do have the same issue, too.my engine has 186k and bought it at 183k, but so far so good...

I have that noise also on a 92 with 175k miles.

I assume the parts cheap but you have to pull everything off of the front of the engine to get to it?

just remove the valve cover then its just 2 bolts holding the uppe guide on. with high miles you may have more that 1 noisy guide.

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, my KA has 185K on it.

I'll look at the guide when I get the chance. Too much going on right now.
