ok, so i'm trying to get a key cut for my 240. No one can do it. I bought my car and it had a duplicated key and thats it. It doesn't work good either, its worn out. Nissan said they could make one if i had the key code, but they can't do it by the vin number. My car came with no owners manual or anything, so i don't know. Can anyone help me out on how to get a better key made?

go to home depot, or lows, or wal-mart. they will make a duplicate for you

The code may be on the sticker in the glove box.

At my work we made a copy for each of his 3 keys and none of them worked and we tried again ended up giving him back his money

Go to a lock smith. They can make a copy that will work. Hardware stores can only make copies of good keys that work well.

i think i am going to have to go to a locksmith, b/c i took my key and they tryed to cut it 3 times and ended up giving me my money back. And there is no sticker in my dash, i looked all over my car for a key code and nothing, so i guess its locksmith time!

Quote »but they can't do it by the vin number[/quote]Actually the vin number is what they use to get the key code. The dealership I went to needed proof of ownership of the vehicle (insurance card was all I had). All the hardware stores in the world won't be able to make a working copy from a bad key. Nissan is the way to go.

well, im going to a dealer first and if that don't work i'll hit the hard way. How much did that cost for all of them to be rekeyed?

Have you talked to a locksmith? It's like 60-80 buks if you don't have an old key to copy. Any decent one should be able to do it fairly quickly (they'll come to your house, even)

locksmiths are the way to go.

most people aren't lucky enough to have their codes left in the glove box. that's supposed to be removed by the dealer.

The keys that Walmart or Home Depot make will only copy the one he already has, one that doesn't work. The only way to get a key that works is through the a dealer.
