It sounds as if it's from the forward part of the center console. Seems to be from inside the cabin, and not the engine compartment.
Starts at around 60 mph.
Very random - not timed or in sync with any mechanical or rotational aspect of driving.
Independent of any components - fan, AC, stereo, - that may be running. I've turned them all off and it still goes.
Sometimes it seems to go along with the car going over bumps, but happens on perfectly smooth roads as well.
One way to describe it might be as if there was something small flying around inside a close space, trying to get out.
I also thought maybe something loose or dangling near the rear of the engine compartment that was knocking against the firewall at speed due to wind effect.
I tried removing the cabin air filter and vacuuming out that area, but it didn't stop the rattle (but I removed a ton of crap and dust from the filter area)
If I can be assured that it's not anything mechanical, I can live with it (it's not very loud, you really need to turn off the stereo and turn down the fan in order to hear it)
Thanks,
