trying to buy salvaged 240

ive always thought that you could go to a salvage yard and buy a vehicle they have in there lot. so i go venture around my local junker and low and behold i see a possible project car just chillin there. a 90 240 coupe. condition not bad. 142k on the auto. so i go up to the guy and ask him how much he wants for it. "well i cant helpyou there. we USEd to be able to sell junked cars with salvage titles. but not anymore." and that was that...

is this just an illinois thing or what???

If it is like GA, since they are a business they would need a business license and a used car dealer's license.

I bought my 90 ,240sx from a salvage yard with some front end damage. I got it inspected by the highway patrol and they o.k.ed it so it has a salavge title now.

but why wont they sell it to me. they told me it would be 'too much paperwork' ??? wtf..wouldnt they be making money off the sale?anyone know what i should do..should i just try to find a recent wrecked one?or just buy it in decent shape?? this sure can be frustrating

they would be making money, but they would make more off of parting it out. the car in parts is worth 3 times as much as it is in whole. They just may not be able to sell the car by law for whatever reasons though. Go back and ask them why.

contact your local dmv office and see what they say, ask who does the inspections for salavged vehicles that have been repaired. The junkyard can sell you the car, the title will say salvaged.

go to http://www.iasp.com this is a salvage auto auction, you can get wrecked cars form there for cheap, on the site it shows the list of all the cars, the auction is held every weds. Since you live in Illinois like me this isn't too far away, it's in Indiana

They may not want to sell it to you because they don't have the proper paperwork on it and they don't want to have to deal with it.
