Car: trying to buy one... hope to update this soon!!!

Post

Sorry, I have not had time to look over the forum. I am a little desperate. I have a deal in my hands or I do not. A 93 Nissan Sentra 200000 mil. that they say kinda barely got thru smog last summer. ( at least a used car owner is honest) I guess they were thinking of a a new car anyway and got one.

Now I want theirs for a decent price if I can find out why it cannot get smogged. they say it is the "middle reason" . In California is there a standardized test that says if it is the emission, visual or whatever the third thing is ( LOOK at my sign in name) and let me know if this is something that is worth the price I paying.

For the blue book it is low at $900 and high at$2000.00 of course " depending' I have not seen the sucker yet. or inspected it. but I am getting it at $400... Charity rate.

Someone tell me if there is a standardized 1..2..3 and if the " middle one " is the one that costs the most damage.

Did I make any sense.I need a car, The bus system runs smoothly its the ones in the back of the bus the silly blonde worrys about and the ones in the front that want lollypops that worry you more. eeeek

The third issue is safety.

Looking at the CA DMV website, I can't find what order it is in. I've never heard of a state having a specified order, just that everything needs inspecting.

Honestly, you're going to just have to ask them to be more direct.

If it passed, it's probably worth the meager $400. My concern would be continuing to pass, though. How long do you plan on keeping this car?

If you can get them to be direct about what's wrong and they tell you it's safety, politely ask what part(s) of safety they nearly failed. This is obviously of a large concern to you.

If it's a smog or visual issue, it's *probably* easy and cheap to fix.

Do you have a mechanic friend? Ask them if you can have a mechanic look it over and find a mech who will do that for you. There might be a small charge for looking it over, but it's worth it if you're tight on money and want to not have to worry about this car.

Welcome to NICO!

Thank you! You are correct, I need this guy to be more direct. He is not trying to be slippery, he is a friend of a friend so we know he is just flakey.

I have been warned that the high mileage makes it a not so good thing, but for $400.00??? Come on... If he can tweak it to smog it. ( or a mechanical friend of mine can) then yes I am not planning on keeping it for too long and I think I am willing to risk it. I am a dreamer in some things, but not in high mileage cars.

It is just that the bus is not the place for me, I am a delicate and stuck up person. I admit it.

Thanks again for your reply and your " welcome". Have a good weekend. I guess I have a decision to make.

If the motor has been cared for, 200,000mi is not a problem. Certainly, it's no spring chicken and will creak and moan a bit, but proper maintenance will keep it reliable.

Riding the bus and getting rides is no fun, so I perfectly understand wanting to avoid it any longer than you've had to.

Yeah, Thanks!

I am gonna look it in inside and outside. I am not am silly as I as I sound I have quite a lot of power behind me as I post.I thank you for all you have suggested. And I have studied The Blondes & Idiots guide to used cars.

I think and know now that that if the emissions is the only prob. and the owner ( who frankly is being honest about it's probs) He will not sell it to me me except for a dollar unless he wants his wife to not kick him at night. sooooo. let us just say there are good people out there. That is my DREAM!

And there are some good people on my buses (plurul) I have to take a couple when it usally takes 10min to get to work.

Good luck to you all. And to you making your cars pretty have a good time rev em I would love a cool JEEP with little round headlights... oops wrong forum... NOW NOW I just want a reliable car...

Dreams come later... I am not making sense... Moderator Moderator!!!!

If it doesn't pass smog I may have a home for it in KY. My 92 SE-R has 231K and I'll drive it anywhere.
