Hi! New to this forum. Trying to buy my first Datsun 411 sss. It is in the desert in Nevada and has no title or registration papers. Been there for 15 years! Anyone know how I could get this thing registered, and get a title?

Thanks for any help,
jm

Are you in Nevada? If so, find out the process for an abandoned title application in your state.

Good luck - I have a 67 SSS wagon, they're super-cool!

Make sure the SSS unique parts haven't been stripped, they are expensive and hard to find. There were only about 4400 total RL411 imported to North America, so after 53 years not too many survive. More wagons than sedans were imported so they add to the small population.

Engines are not directly interchangeable with roadsters and require modification to fit into the tiny engine compartment.

thanks for the reply and information. As far as I can see all the parts are there except the front grill and badge; bet that is going to be hard to find! If I can't get a title, this car will not work for me; just too much money to put into a car that can't be driven.
Where does everyone get parts for the 411; like interior parts?
thanks,
jm

Not all RL411 have the SSS front badge. Mine has a "1600" badge. Look on your trunk lid for the "Datsun1600" badge. If it is there, you had the "1600" front grill badge. If you have a SSS trunk badge, look for a SSS grill badge. Some 520 or 521 front grills MAY be modified to fit the 411. It takes ingenuity to keep these cars rolling. Headlight chrome surrounds may be sourced from other Datsun trucks, or in the extreme I think you could modify early Corvair or Chevy two van surrounds. The screw holes will not exactly line up but they will be 20 foot away acceptable.

Interior parts? Depends on what you need. Upholstery is a do it yourself or pay a shop. Carpet is after market kits [although it seems quality has tanked in these]. Instrument gauge panel, use 520 or 521 units. Roof panel ? Good luck ! Seat belts, use RV after market kits and trim the length to fit. You will probably not find matching to original buckles, so be sure they are at least consistent with each other.

Good luck with your purchase !
