Seriously BEFORE you do this or even try to do this look at the consequences. Look at how much it is to buy a new light if you F up....."about 150 new on ebay".

Also if your going to do this KNOW that it takes a while to do this. Yes many people have recently grab there balls and tried doing this, but ask every person, SOMETHING went wrong in the process. Learn from there mistakes.

TAKE YOUR TIME. This is the biggest thing of all, if you dont have patience DONT even try to do this.

Also SHOPS DONT DO THIS, with a guarentee of not leaking/breaking them. People think oh ill just take it to a shop most places dont know THESE ARE DIFFERENT. The silicone/plastic Nissan uses isnt normal. Its not the same as the g or 350z. Its more of a plastic, you need to repeadidly heat it up and pry them, YOU DONT just bake them and pop them open.

I made this thread bc im WARNING YOU THIS IS NOT AN EASY JOB. Overall its not that bad but its VERY time consuming/and you need to have patience. I frustrated myself trying to open them and cracked a corner only a hairline fracture "meaning it didnt crack through just u can see it towards the bottom when the lights are off the car".

I just want all the "newer" people to know this isn't easy, if i joined a month ago i would think nothing of baking them, but ive been here for a while and seen its not easy.

Im NOT telling you to not do it im just WARNING you its not easy to do thats all........

end rant

This is great info for all the Altima owners on here Matt. Good looking out for them (US in general dude). I'm thinking about buying another set of lights so I can try and do a new set myself for kicks. I still have the set Brandon did for me and love them, but I'm curious to know how hard it is. I got the price of $1016.81 for the pair. Which I will buy very soon so I can give it a shot. If I mess them up then whatever because I still have the set Brandon made for me like I mentioned. This is GREAT advice that Matt is giving guys and gals to know know before you try this.

yea beware of numerous problems, biggest problem i faced was resealing the light together...everything was tight and it didnt fog or crack, but the housing kept melting from heat of my HIDs.

phenom is TOTALLY RIGHT.

this isnt a simple pop in, takeout and put together project. I did a set for myself, but the damn thing is sooo hard to open.

Like matt said it takes time and patience is a REQUIREMENT for this project.

I took my time, granted i was bored had nothing to do, and want to do something different to separate myself from everyone else in mass.

I also brought myself a spare set just incase anything happens and It took me about a whole day's worth, 4-8hrs? each. that i took my time prying it open, and removing all the shiny sealant from the groove so it can have a nice and tight seal after once i put it back together.

And with patience come this reward.

on the car

a before and after picture of my lights.

So if people have the patience to do this project, then go for it, but be WARNED....IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE TO DO THIS. as matt has so lovely ranted about.

Don't throw my financial info out there dude ... I'm a regular person like everyone else on this club. My money has nothing to do with my personality or how I act. If I met anyone on the forums in person I act normal. Not like a some of those rich @sshole out there, which I know a few and HATE with all my guts. I've hung out with "The DOC". You can ask him and he will tell you what kind of person I am .

Ricky is such a cocky mofo always bragging about how sweet his car is and what not...

Just playing man, Ricky is very cool, along with every other forum member I've met so far. Regarding this thread... I haven't tried it yet but will be in the future sometime.

I loved the tint I had on my lights but, I've already been pulled over 3 times for them (ticketed twice) so I figure this is a good way to get the same effect without the hassle.

Great Info Matt I thought I'd never see the freaking day that you post something useful

Anyway for anyone that has OEM HIDs in their coupe, you can also use the OEM halogen headlights to replace it for the retro. The mounting holes are the same as well as the highbeam (H9) the only thing different is the lowbeam (H11 or D2S) So the break down of parts will be this.

1. If you have the OEM HIDs and are retro-ing your lights with D2S projectors the OEM ballast and connector, which are Matsus***a, will fit the D2S projector so everything will be a plug and play.

2. If you have the OEM HIDs and want to do the retro but don't want to buy OEM HIDs which are hella expensive (eh hem,..Ricky C), you can get a set of halogen lights (which are far cheaper than HID lights) and modify those. There are two ways to do this:

A.) If you buy a set of D2S projectors, you'll need to get a set of these . These will enable you to use your OEM matsus***a plug that goes directly into the ballast. You'll just need to mount the ballast underneath the light the same place the OEM are mounted.

B.) If you buy a set of projectors other than D2S, just buy the aftermarket HID kit for that style projector (H11, H9 etc) to connect it to the OEM plug you'll probably need to splice into it or buy the right female connector.

3. If you have the OEM Halogen headlights and you want to do this retro, get an extra set of headlights off of ebay and buy the projectors you want.Buy the corresponding HID kit for the projector and connect them up.

IF you go with the Matsus***a setup, you'll also need to get these pigtails to do a clean install.

That's pretty much it

Oh nah... You talking smack. We'll find out this weekend. I'm heading down to SD on Saturday morning. Imma take a friend with me dude. He's actually giving me a ride to pick up my car "If it's ready" and he's riding with me throughout the run. He has a 240 which I keep telling him to throw an SR20 in and put that KA in the trash. He just got a Russian made Mosen Nagot rifle. I told him we're going to that other range so I can see your other baby. Put your betting where your mouth is bruh . See you this weekend so we can hit up that other place on Sat night.
