Will the NGK Iridium plugs work in our cars? Or should i just stick with the platinum ones?

Also other then the oem fuel filter, any recomended brands? Any that should be avoided?

Just want to make sure I'm buying the right stuff :)

I see you have a 98.

About a month ago I went with the NGK Iridium IX plugs. The Laser Iridiums were more than my budget needed. Being new to Q world I went with my past, (good) Iridium experiences over the long haul.

I see NGK has a double platinum PFR5B-11 that lists for the same price as the Laser Iridium.

I wasn't looking for any performance gains from Iridium. I see forum members reporting long life from the platinum plugs as well.

My personal preference is to remove and read the plugs every 60,000 miles. I've got over 100,000 miles on some Iridiums that are still going strong.

I remember the days when new plugs came along with an annual fall tune-up of plugs, points, and condenser -- so I'm happy for all the improvements brought by both types of plugs.

Some members have reported their Qs don't like Iridium plugs. So far my 91 hasn't thrown them back at me yet. ;)

I used a plastic top Auto Zone fuel filter before I knew about Infiniti Of Scottsdale and other dealers and how inexpensive OEM fuel filters are. It did last a year till I changed it out for a OEM fuel filter.

And I use OEM spark plugs because for the labor and money they can't be beat. And they were made for our engine so its a no brainier for me.

Yes they will work, maybe last a little longer than the NGK factory spec platinums......but the factory plugs already outlast the valve cover gaskets, so not sure it makes sense to use a longer lasting plug {always replace plugs when doing the valve cover gaskets as there is no additional labor involved}

BE AWARE that NGK makes 2 versions of iridium plugs.....one is a super premium and the other is not!!!!!

Yeah kind of figured staying away from the cheaper filters would be best. besides the oem filter is only a few bucks more then the cheaper autozone/checker ones so why risk it.

Plugs out lasting valve cover gaskets? Are the gaskets on the Q not the best? I know for sure that mine have never been changed and I'm pushing 193,000 with not a single leak (knock on wood) from them.

If I do go with the Iridium plugs I will make sure to get the super premium ones

The OEM platinum plugs are rated at 105K miles. I inspect them at 60K miles but typically replace them at 90K miles. IMO, for as long as you use Tier 1 Premium Gas, change oil and filter regularly, change air filter annually and add fuel injector system cleaner twice a year, your spark plugs (and engine) will last for a long time). For the transmission, it's advisable to do pan drop and clean pan and magnets, replace filter as required and do a fluid replacement every 2 years + a bottle of LubeGard (Red) ATF Protectant. I have 5 Infinitis and never have had any problem with spark plugs, injectors, ignition coils (knock on wood - 97Q) nor with the transmission.

Nothing is ever certain (vehicle history wise) unless you are the original owner. But if the original poster can get the service history from any dealer the vehicle has been to in the last couple of years, or any receipts from the previous owner I am sure he will see if the work has been done or not.

He has a 1998 (FGY33, 1997-2001 Q45) so his valve covers and gaskets are maybe a bit better designed? Never thought I would say that and I am sure Q45Tech will destroy me for it too.

The problem with buying old cars with 1,2,3+ previous owners is you can never know what work they had at an independent shop or even did themselves, and generally as a car ages the % of work done at a Infiniti dealership drops dramatically compared to DIY or use of an independant{cheaper} source. Just the nature of older cars and mindset of progression of ownership.
