I was going to have my mechanic check the injectors again (replaced one last year) when the 94 Q started to have a real lumpy idle again. But since he was so booked, I added a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to a half tank. 2 days later, the idle suddenly became smooth again. It might be the fact that we have been forced to use an ethanol mix fuel, but hey. I was ready to spring for another injector or two. He told me to add another bottle as it gets close to empty so it really cleans them. Boy am I happy.

Not just "injector cleaner," but BG44K in the last tank before every oil change!

Only the greatest injector cleaner EVER! According to Tech it's roughly 10x more powerful than even Techron.

You'll have to do a little internet search to find out where your nearest BG shop is because they don't sell this stuff in regular auto stores. Or, grab some on eBay....sometimes you can find a really good deal on multiple cans of it.

Note: I have an S13, not a G50, but I think the question is applicable anyway and this seems like the thread to ask it in.

Once in awhile, upon starting, my car shakes like it's running on 3 cylinders. Only feels strange at lower rpm, but really shakes HARD. This is maybe 1 in 100 starts.

I attribute this behavior to my injectors from info gleaned from searching.

I haven't seafoamed the car because it's got 136k on it and it hasn't exactly been babied by prior owners, and so I don't want to cause any damage.....which I hear seafoam can do on occasion.

Should I use the BG44K?

I'm coming up on an oil change, so now would be the time. I'll also be doing my fuel filter when I change the oil, if that makes any difference (i.e. if I should wait until maybe that's done and see what happens).

I don't see any danger in using BG44K. The recommendation to use it before an oil change is that there are some reports that the cleaner leaves some residue on the cylinder walls that can seep into the oil... but it's not going to impact anything like dislodging sludge like the concerns of using seafoam in the oil.

My recent rough idle issues started in the same way Hash (on my Silver Q). My idle was rough only on ocassion... then, slightly more often... then every time I started the car. This was across the course of a couple of months.

Eventually it was rough at all times tha tht ecar was idling. When I recently did my under plenum job I sent my injectors back to Deatsch and found that a few of them were completely dead, and a couple more were nearly dead.

In the case of my injectors... when they died, they died in the full open position. Thus, I was flooding my engine at idle, but it ran smooth when at high RPM or was pulling hard during acceleration.

I ran BG44K before hand and saw modest improvement. I think it helped clean a couple that were simply dirty. However, the ones that were actually dead couldn't be helped without rebuild/replace.

I think if you get to your injectors with BG44K early and often, you can prevent the issues with dead injectors. Maxnix typically recommends running it in the last tank of gas before each oil change.

Sounds like it's worth a try.

Worst case, it's only about $100 to get Deutschwerks to rebuild my injectors.

I'm about to do my fuel filter.

Should I replace it before or after running the BG44K?

My instincts would tell me after, just like you install a new O2 sensor after seafoaming, but I wanted to make absolutely sure.
