Okay, I'm new here and I'm not even sure this will post. My question is does my 07 G35 really need premium gas. I've seen a few posts in this page that seems to say a G37 does but a G35 doesn't. My car is my wife's daily driver and she has no idea it has any power at all. Is paying the extra really necessary?

Other than opinions, has anyone has problems running regular grade gasoline in their G35?

I'm referring to this post by the way...

Even our 08 G35X sedan says 87 is ok, BUT I prefer to feed her prem!!! I like the extra 60 HP it gives!!!

CHECK YOUR MANUAL!!!! I would push my Coupe before putting 87 in it.

ZoZo, I see them now!! AND, we expecting some WHITE STUFF!!!!!! I keep telling the wife I'm going to do with her X like you did in the vid!!!

Uh-oh, here she comes

This is the way I figure it. My car holds 13-15 gallons per fill up and it is 10 cents a gallon more. We are only talking $1.30 - $1.50 per week because that is how often I get gas. I'm driving a $40k+ vehicle. I'm going to put the best gas in it.

Just my opinion.

Read your owner's manual or look inside the fuel filler door. That will tell you what to run. If it says 87 octane regular, you will not benefit from higher octane.

It is my understanding that G35 sedans can run 87 octane regular but that G35 coupes and all G37s require premium.

My G37 manual says that I can add some regular if I am short on gas and can't find a station with premium. However, it says to put in as little regular as possible, drive gently on the mix, and fill up with premium as soon as possible.

EXACTLY!! :bigthumb:
If you do try regular in a coupe or G37, listen carefully for the knocking... :ohno:
I had 2 pathfinders at one time.
The Automatic HAD to have premium or it would spark knock.
The 5MT would run fine on middle grade and 87.

It's a sedan. My wife drives it and I don't think it goes over 3000 rpm on it's best day.
We got it used so there's no manual. Premium is 20 cents more per gallon, and it adds up, especially if there's no benefit other than a few more horsepower.

You should be fine.
Personally, I would put 1/2 tank regular and listen for knocking under a load. If nothing, then fill the rest of the tank....just me. :gapteeth:

Haven't tried regular in our 08 G, but did have to run it in our 05 G Sedan. Even going up in the NC mountains, it did fine. No knocking.

You can grab a PDF of the manual here!

I've been using regular 87 octane since day one.
Never had any problems.
I did a study using 91 and 93 octane for a month at a time and found that I get better mileage using regular

I've used regular in G37 loaners and had no issues there either.
Don't believe everything thats written in the owners manual.

Back in 2005 I had a 350z and an FX35. The FX was my daily driver and I was putting in regular gas, the Z was my fun car that just went out for same top down time. I noticed the Z was way faster than the FX. I happend to run into an Infiniti employee and talked about it. The first thing he asked is if I was running premium in the tank, saying ithat if I was not I would loose preformance. I switched it back to premium, and after 2 tanks of premuium fuel, the FX was as quick as the Z. Not running premium will hamper performance, not sure if it will have any long term effects.

Top tier gas can also make a diffrence. When I had my BMW's the engines would not run properly without it. Shell, Mobile, QT ect...

I had a Honda VFR that got much better gas mileage with regular vs. premium...but it called for regular. I would use whatever your manual states.

Thanks for posting that article. Ive had my 37 for 2 years and experimented with different grades as well. Nominal performance differences, the most noticeable difference is engine performance while idling. I can hear and feel a much rougher idle with lower octane gas. Mid range seems to work just fine.
