Trusty Mechanics in New York?

Hey guys; couldn't find anything with a search and want to hear some personal feedback about the mechanics in NYC.

I do some maintenance myself (oil changes in the past and changing my brakes for the first time next week), but for some things like changing a fuel filter, I need to raise the car on a lift, effectively putting the job in the hands of a mechanic. I live in Staten Island and my dad's mechanic is in Brooklyn. Honestly, he's a good guy but he overcharges quite a lot. Can anyone recommend any mechanics in Staten Island or the Jersey area close to here?

I also heard quite a lot about these self-serve car lifts (http://www.carliftblog.com/new-trend-fo ... rvice.html). I don't think there are any in SI but let me know if anyone heard of anything similar.
