im going to look at a 95 240sx w/s20 swap with 46k mi and the guy thinks the piston rings are bad. im gonna do compression tests and test drive it and i was wondering if anyone knew of some shops around the lawrenceville area that i could take it to and have them check it out b4 i do buy it. my uncle who's a mechanic might be tagging along too.

Hello Mike, did they tell you the rings we're bad? Theres a good possibilty it could be the ring lands too. Generally 46k rings don't go bad, you might be in for a rebuild. Sorry we aren't closer for you.

well the kid really doesn't know 100% sure whats wrong but he "thinnks" its the rings.im going up there today and will do compression checks. someone else also mentioned that the rings shouldn't be bad after only that many miles. how would i know if the ring lands are bad? if it was a sensor bad how could i tell that from something else?

where are you located? i live in fayetteville but the car im looking at is in lawrencevill by the mall of ga

i only know of 1 shop in ga and its in augusta

We are west of atlanta. If the cars runs, see if it smokes, drive it and get into boost, when in boost if the rings or ringlands are bad it will cause oil to burn and smoke. Pull the plugs and look at them.
