I need to figure out how these metal thin bars go that hold the trunk lid up. I have both of them and the little plastic piece that joins them together. Just cant figure out how they hook on there....it's the thin gray bars at the top that are connecting to the trunk lid all the way across.

Well, to me 84510 needs to be removed. I can be wrong though. Good luck.

So I was correct in thinking thats what holds the trunk.

When you say remove 85410 youre talking about the actual hinge???

Pictures a little confusing, if someone could snap a pic of their coupe trunk and how it goes thatd be awesome...wont hold my breath tho

lol bumpp for more answers

I swapped my grimy old trunk lid for a better looking one with the 3rd brake light on it, but it won't stay open. used to great on a stock no-wing lid. but this one also has sound deadener. I'm definitely going to go gas shocks on the trunk and hood.

Okay i hope these help. Let me know if you need some different angles or something. Drivers side:Passenger side:And one last shot, showing that the bars criss-cross in the middle.

I wouldn't say a LOT of tension but there is some. Mine have about an inch of play up and down if i grab them in the middle. Pretty secure on the sides though where they connect.

Do you have a wing on there? I took my stock "wing" with third brake light off and it turned mine into a catapult..lol. I had to use a big screw driver to remove one of the tension rods so that it wouldn't sling open. It works good now, but the lid sits crooked when its closed. Guess i need to get a bigger stop on one side. Just something to think about before you put both of them on, if you have a slick lid.

just so you know, you will not be able to do this by hand.the bars WILL NOT just be set in place. i had to use a screwdriver/pliers to grab the short end of the U bend and use the longer end as the pivot point that the screwdriver rests on and kind of twist the bar to set it in place. it may take several tries. just a heads up tip

This should seriously be a sticky lol those pics helped a s***ton. i wasnt sure if the bars crossed or which end should be facing up. got it now though. had to take a long a** wrench and twist one side of the bar so it faced up and had tension. got it tho.

i can now pop my trunk and not have to worry about it fallin on my neck.

I didn't know you guys have this problem too. Shocks go bad on vert scissor hinges, so we have to replace them from time to time, but it's super easy though.
