Hey guys about two weeks ago when I popped the trunk, it made more noise then usual. This morning when I tried to pop the trunk using the remote, and the button on the door, it didn't open.

What I've tried:

Checked the button in the glove compartment.

Tried banging on it softly while hitting the remote, and having someone inside the car push the button on the door.

Tried pulling up on it while doing the above.

I can hear hear a clicking noise when pressing the open button on both the remote, and on the door. However, it just won't open up.

Any help would be appreciated!

Does it still open with the key?

The key has never worked. Just doesn't turn.

I tried turning with a pretty good amount of force, but don't want to break the key in there.

Any ideas?

I can't get in m trunk at all, I have 2-3 24 packs of water, my wallet, etc.

This sucks!

Only way to get in is to drill the lock cylinder to force it open and then buy a new lock cylinder (I don't think they're that expensive) and replace.

Wow that sucks!

Any easier methods I might be able to try?

College student, and trying to keep the J30 going is tough.

Thanks!

My trunk key did not work for the longest time. I used a bunch of penetrating oil and finally got it to move. It took a couple days of oiling and moving the key around (well, not 2 days straight, but 5 minutes here and there).

Just and update guys.

I tried for about 5 minutes a day, for about 3 days straight. Shot the key with some PB Blaster, and tried to get the key moving.

Today after shooting it with some PB Blaster, it opened right up.

Just figured I'd update the thread so if anyone else has the same problem, they can try this out before trying a more expensive option.

Thanks Ebb, great info on this site as always!

Liquid wrech is similiar to PB Blaster and should also work. I think if you blast the lock with a lot of oil and leave it in the hot sun, it will allow the oil to penetrate deeper.

I have the same problem. I have a 95 maxima and the trunk was working fine. One day i went to the store and bought some stuff and i place it in the trunk....now the trunk wont open. It makes the click sound when i use the remote or trunk release button inside the car. I even tried with my key and still got no luck.....can SOMEONE help me and tell me what to do.

Like i said it just happened randomly.....and need to get it to work!!

Try the suggestions in this thread; pentrating oil like liquid wrench or something commercial, use it liberally and let it pentrate for 2-3 days. If you live somewhere warm, expose the trunk to the sun, heat will allow the oil to penetrate. Worst case scenario, drill the lock cylinder.

If the key has never worked, but the trunk once opened using the electronic fob or the door mounted switch, I'd first suggest obtaining a good key. Is your's an original titanium key? Once inside the problem might be the small electric motor driven gear mechanism that opens the latch when activated, and then springs back. Your's may be jammed or broken.

Mine used to stick in the open position (the trunk lid wouldn't latch), until I opened it up and removed a few gear teeth on one side so it wouldn't over-rotate. I still open the trunk using a key, instead of popping it with an electric switch.

More recently I had a similar thing happen with the fuel door latch motor/gear mechanism. It took some inside expoxy work to fix that.
