Thanks to everyone for answering the accelerator update question.

My '02 Q has the optional spoiler and since I just bought it used, the stays (struts) are not holding up the trunk.. Obviously due to use and the added weight?...Dealer wants $150 a piece for each "strut/stay".. and $300 for installation. Total = $600.reason for expense is having to remove the rear seats to access the struts.. These seats are heated/reclining (premium pkg) and I think I am taking a small chance w/ dealer properly putting the back seats together. Seems once something is taken apart.. its never replaced exactly the same way.. even w/ a dealership.Anyone have a suggestion on how to proceed here?$600 seems a bit steep for something thats used maybe 1 time per month.. however the trunk will drop w/ major force which will probably kill my rear camera and maybe take a hand off in the process!Thank youHaggis

Mods always cost more than the simple purchase price! The law of unintended consequences.

I think you're right that it's definitely something that you want to fix. It's bound to break something at some point if it's slamming shut too hard.

If you're handy, I would lean toward buying the stays from IOS http://www.everythinginfiniti.com and doing the work yourself. The "lift cylinders" as they're called on the site, are about $187+ shipping, but they only show one style, so I'm not sure if they would be stronger than the ones that are already on your car.

Remember that the only way a dealership tech. can make $$$ is to beat the clock by doing the work in less than the book time you're paying. On the other hand, you can take a full weekend to make sure it's perfect if you want.

The FSM is available at http://www.phatg20.net and should be pretty detailed on the correct method of removing the rear seat.

Good luck!

Heath

haggisgood, I wouldn't try this yourself unless your very good. Taking out the back seat is not for folks that don't DIY all the time. It will end up taking you way to long.

Have you tried the independent Infiniti shop in San Diego (I noticed you were there). I have never done anything with him but many NICO'ers rave about Jerry Tucker in San Diego. Maybe he can knock the labor job down a bit...I doubt you will find anything 3rd party to fit this.

FYI, all Nissan hydralic lifts fail, that was pretty fast for yours. My Z's failed and the Nissan ones were really pricey, even with simple install. I did find good quality aftermarket ones for 1/2 the price...My rear ones also failed and I again found aftermarket ones that were 1/2...and they have both already lasted longer than stock.

Do look at jasonb though a his are strong enough to lift the trunk completely and if your spoiler is heavier than the itty bitty stock trunk lip......

Haggis,I am a so so mechanic.I installed the burtman high pressure units myself.NO you dont have to remove the rear seat.U can get to the small clips w/ a long screw driver.

The job is easy and not even a "knukle scrapper"

Send me a pm and I'll walk u thru it.

I just got a fresh supply of these made. I've had a few asking about them and all these posts are old. Yes, it pops the trunk FULLY OPEN automated, by itself when you hit the trunk button on your remote, etc.

this may be a little late but do you still have the info for replacing the stays without removing the rear seat?

I read somewhere that you CAN replace the stays without removing the back seats. You just have to reach in there where they are from the trunk side. They seem to be pretty far up in there. If you don't have huge hands, you might be able to do it.

I'm thinking about giving it a try myself.

All the best,
~HollywoodJackson~
