Thanks to all who have helped me with another recent problem.

But I thought I'd ask about a couple of problems that I've learned to live with, I figure that if it's the worst that is wrong with my 94 Q, then I'm doing pretty good (well, it's not the worst, but most everything else will be fixed by tomorrow)...

The first problem is that the trunk release button on the door and on the remote no longer open my trunk. Why would that be?

Recently, when I turn on my radio (factory Bose), sometimes (moreso in the cold weather) I hear nothing for about 10 minutes or so, then it miraculously comes on. There are no readouts during these 10 minutes on the radio display. What could cause this?

The other general question is what are the best fluids (oil, trans, brake, PS) that I can put in my baby? Give me some name brands and specifics so that I know what you pros put in yours to keep them healthy.

Thanks!

Linda

Welcome to NICO!

Look in the glove box and make sure the trunk release cancel switch isnt on.

Oil:http://www.q45.org/oil.htmlSearch for all posts by "PalmerWMD" for tons and tons of advice on what motor oil to use in what seasons.Valvoline Synpower, Amsoil, Redline, and Mobil 1 are the most popular among Q owners. Among the best filters are Nissan, Pure 1, Bosch Premium, and especially Mobil 1 (pricey).

Transmission:Use Amsoil, Redline, or Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. Be sure to drop the pan and change the filter.

Power Steering:Use transmission fluid, preferably a synthetic from Amsoil, Redline, or Mobil 1.Regular power steering fluid made my steering feel irregular and a bit jerky.

Brake:Valvoline Synpower

Differential:Valvoline Synpower

Radiator:The green coolant from Nissan (or any other brand should probably work fine), distilled water, and a bottle of Redline Water Wetter.

Someone else should chime in about the radio.

Enjoy the ride!

As for the radio, its possible you have a loose connection or frayed wire. I had the same symptoms as you on my Jeep daily driver that I recently solved. Except mine involved both cold and wet weather.

The issue with the radio is probably a cold solder joint the radio's circuit board. It comes on after the circuit board has heated enough to make contact with the solder. Sadly, this is a known issue with nissan electronics (broad generalization) that can only be resolved by someone experienced with electronics repair, in particular soldering.. Here is one link that gives you an idea with nissan stereo nuances: http://madchef.5u.com/maxima/bose/bose.html

The trunk is possibly the glove compartment switch.. and any oil that is synthetic is good to god..

And add an ATF cooler for prolonged wear and crisp shifts.

I also recommend ATE Blue for the brake fluid, although I alternate with the Castrol LMA GT. DOT4 is worth the few extra bucks.

I have used Mobil1 GL5 in the past and it has done well in the differential, but now I use Royal Purple 85W-140 for the TX summers.

Be sure to read all posts by Q45tech, and search on particular words (there is a sticky tutorial in Infiniti General) to read about any topic in detail.

Ther is no reason to accept less than perfect performance from your Q45 with the help of the knowledge on this board.

I think the cheapest option for your radio is to find a replacement on eBay - assuming it's not a loose connection. They're pretty cheap at this point - and it doesn't seem to be that common of an issue on the Q radios.
