Hopefully this is a simple one... I pull the trunk release on the door, and nothing happens. Just happened today. Three young guys came over for a test drive and to take a look. I was looking under the hood with one and the other two were in the front seats checking out the interior.

So now I have to open the trunk manually. Its possible the trunk, when it was closed, was shut -on- something that got wedged in. Could that be a cause? If so, is there a solution?

Thanks,-Jesda

If the manual method works properly, it's got to be electrical. Check the power at the motor latch.

There should be a cable that runs from the lever to the trunk latch. You can check it at both ends to see if it has come off the lever or latch. If it is broke then you have to buy a new cable and run it.Kinda pain in the arse.

This is all information based on a totally diferant car.Never had a Q.Good luck man.;)

I had the same problem with my G20. It turned out to be the two lift springs on either side of the trunk. A $20 fix.

Just for general information, the Q uses a 12V pulse to a solenoid. The Maximas used the cable up until the early 90s. Typically if the switch is a lever on the floor, it's a cable. If it's a button somewhere else, it's electric.

Okay this is probably a stupid attempt to help your problem, becuse if this a solution, you've probably already checked it.

I don't know about your model, but on my J30 there is a switch in the glove box that enables and disables trunk opening from the driver door latch. If you have one of these switches in your glove box, and you haven't done so already, you might want to look in there and see if maybe one of the guys checking out the car interior turned it off. Just a suggestion.

SweeT! Glad it was an easy fix.

Good info on the electric vs cable latch systems.

The one that I messed with was on an 1985 New Yorker.LOL

Some of the Maximas seem to have that problem too... You'll hear the noise, but it won't open. You might check to make sure it's not just an adjustment.

Or just needs a tiny bit of lithium grease on the latch!

Ill keep trying, it works most of the time, and when it doesnt I just get out with the key... INconvenient but it works...

Is is possible to replace the latch mechanism without replacing the lock (so i dont have to get different keys...)
