trunk release not working

hey guys, my trunk release from inside the car wont open the trunk, i know the struts are bad because when i open it manually with the key i have to pull up and hold it to open the trunk. any help would be awesome!

Your trunk release is probably working fine...

Just pull on the trunk release and have a 2nd person pull the trunk up. If that works, your release is working properly...

You need to change out the bad struts, which you can search for (or go on the 3rd page "Convertible struts").

Have you tried following the cable (you have to untuck the carpet and rear quarter panels) to see where it is getting kinked? It's a mechanical release, so there's only so many things that can go wrong...

The verts have a Valet lock switch inside the trunk near the latch. If its flipped, the trunk will not open with the pull inside the car, only with the key. Check that, it somehow got flipped in mine and I had the same problem.

Wow. I did not know that.! This is why I enjoy this forumso much. there is usually someone that has had the problem before, fixed it or realized what little thing needs to be done, and reports on it. Simple fixes most of the time. Thanks NICO! And thanks BaliLover!

The valet thing is on the passenger's side of the locking mechanism in the back of the trunk area. It is a metal piece that slides up and down. Up allows the trunk to be opened with the release.

Question was, why were you crawling through the trunk instead of using the key to open the trunk?

Im totaly new to the NICOforums and its stuff like this that makes me so happy. For the longest time i thought my cable had broke! now i dont need to waste gas tuning off my car, opening the trunk, and starting it back up again!!!
